Publisher's summary

I am Meredith, princess of faerie, wielder of the hands of Flesh and Blood, and at long last, I am with child - twins, fathered by my royal guard. Though my uncle, Taranis, King of Light and Illusion, claims that he is the true father since he abducted me from my home, betrayed, and defiled me. And now he has branded my guards as a threat to my unborn children.

Bearing an heir has placed me halfway to my aunt’s throne, that much closer to my reign over the Unseelie Court - and well ahead of her son, my cousin Cel, in this race. Now I must stay alive to see my children born and claim my place as queen.

But not all in faerie are pleased with the news, and conspirators from every court in the realm plot against me and mine. They seek to strip my guards, my lovers, from me by poisoned word or cold steel. But I still have supporters, and even friends, among the goblins and the sluagh, who will stand by me.I am Meredith Nic Essus, and those who would defy and destroy me are destined to pay a terrible price - for I am truly my father’s daughter. To protect what is mine, I will sacrifice anything - even if it means waging a great battle against my darkest enemies and making the most momentous decision ever made as princess of faerie.

Fairie tales: listen to another Meredith Gentry fantasy.

New narrator threw me.

Took several.chapters to get used to her accent. British accent didn't conform to story location.

Love and obsessed

Love this storyline! I love the narrator of this book and hope she does more for the Merry series and maybe Anita Blake series.

A richly told tale ... reading or listening

I truly am enjoying this audiobook, most especially, I think, b/c of the narrator. I haven't listened to the other books in the series before and maybe that's why I wasn't distracted but I thought her accent added to the story, not detracted. She brought the characters together beautifully and I haven't been confused once as to who was speaking.

I think it is kind of telling that there are some reviews here saying she overacts, and others that say there isn't enough acting to tell a difference. You have to move on and just enjoy the story ... and this has got to be the best Merry Gentry story so far.

So go ahead and buy this without fear that you'll not enjoy it. The story is rich and so is the voice that will be telling it to you!

Great!

Would you consider the audio edition of Swallowing Darkness to be better than the print version?

In this case, yes. GREAT narrator - I hoped she would be after watching her charactor on the tv show Farscape

I enjoy all of LKH's books, but Claudia make this one a special treat!

Any additional comments?

I hope LKH uses her as narrator again!

Very Good! But...

I think it was my favorite of the series. But too many plot lines left dangling. Too many conspirators with nowhere to go no reason for being included. It kept the book from feeling finished.
Claudia black is a good narrator but she really didn't fit this story her accents were all wrong for an American. However as the story progresses you got used to her and it ceases to be a major distraction.

So much so quick!

I very much enjoyed the story but I didn't like the changing of the narrator after 6 previous books. I have listened to this several times now and if you can get past the "American faery princess" having a British accent then you will enjoy it as well.

Narrator sucks!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Swallowing Darkness to be better than the print version?

No way. The narrator damn near ruins a good book.

What didn’t you like about Claudia Black’s performance?

I don't like to use those type of words. Whoever decided to change narrators from the first 6 books should be fired!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was until the narrator annoyed me.

Better with Age

I have found that I enjoy this book in the Merry Gentry series much more now than the first time I listened. It is, in the end, a wonderful love story, a true fairy tale, with tragedy and challenges throughout. I adore the characters, and Claudia Black is a joy to listen to.
