Publisher's summary

My name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk. I'm a wizard. I work out of an office in midtown Chicago. As far as I know, I'm the only openly practicing professional wizard in the country. You can find me in the yellow pages, under Wizards. Believe it or not, I'm the only one there.

With rent past due and a decent meal becoming an issue of some importance, Harry needs work, and soon. A call from a distraught wife, and another from Lt. Murphy of the Chicago PD Special Investigation Unit makes Harry believe things are looking up, but they are about to get worse, much worse. Someone is harnessing immense supernatural forces to commit a series of grisly murders. Someone has violated the first law of magic: Thou Shalt Not Kill. Tracking that someone takes Harry into the dangerous underbelly of Chicago, from mobsters to vampires, while he himself is under suspicion of the crimes.

Very fast paced and interesting

A grown up version of Harry potter meets a private detective novel. Fun, wildly imaginative and fully captivating. It kept my attention the entire time, unlike some novels where i tend to drift in the slower parts. Overall one of the better narrations and stories I have listened to on Audible.

Stick with it they get even better

Harry if a bit of an infant, but overcomes his first major crisis. Butcher's world isn't fully fleshed out and it feels like several things get slightly ret-conned, but it's an excellent first showing.

Great book

I got this book off a reddit recommendation, didn’t read anything about it but it was rated high. I started it with no clue what it was about and was hooked 5 minutes in.

Good story, annoying reader

In the beginning I liked his enthusiasm, but toward the end it was like he was told or tried to use whispering to make it seem more dramatic, but it was just frustrating.

A Fantasy in Chicago

Harry the Main character is very likable is a weird sympathy way. We can relate to his struggles while also being in aww in what he can come up with in the most stressful of times. I have to say the story was amazing and I would recommend.

I am happy to have listened to this book and am happy to say I will be listening to more in the series... however let me state that I got this book because I have been waiting and waiting and WAITING years now to get the second book in his other potential series I say potential because he only has book 1 of the Cinder Spires out and I have listened to it over 10 times still waiting for the next one so I finally broke down and tried his actual series... very good but please please please come out with more from cinder spires.
