Publisher's summary

My name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk. I'm a wizard. I work out of an office in midtown Chicago. As far as I know, I'm the only openly practicing professional wizard in the country. You can find me in the yellow pages, under Wizards. Believe it or not, I'm the only one there.

With rent past due and a decent meal becoming an issue of some importance, Harry needs work, and soon. A call from a distraught wife, and another from Lt. Murphy of the Chicago PD Special Investigation Unit makes Harry believe things are looking up, but they are about to get worse, much worse. Someone is harnessing immense supernatural forces to commit a series of grisly murders. Someone has violated the first law of magic: Thou Shalt Not Kill. Tracking that someone takes Harry into the dangerous underbelly of Chicago, from mobsters to vampires, while he himself is under suspicion of the crimes.

Better than reading it myself

The narrator really made it come alive. I read the book first myself and grabbed this version to be complete in my audiobook files. This version was fantastic. I can hardly wait to finish the series.

Stellar

Overall I would give this a very solid rating. James Marsters gives a well done performance which gives the story a new tone compared to when I read the book. There were a couple technical issues where the audio was slightly off but nothing too notable to throw off the experience a great deal.

I see other people complaining over Marsters mouth noises, but honestly I don’t really consider a voice actor wetting his lips or sighing in congruence with the story as a negative.

The story itself is good and looking back after reading all of the available material at this point in time it is interesting to see the set ups and payoffs that have taken place over the years. A story that lends itself to having such longevity really does show the strength of the book that started it all.

Love it and can wait to listen to the rest.

pretty great

I used to watch the t.v. show and enjoy it alot. and heard the books where pretty good as well, it wasn't until a friend asked me if I read them, and I realized I had a credit in the air to spend I bought the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. the voice actor, what can I say? he did an amazing job. the story itself was entertaining all the way through and seemed way to short.

if you are a fan of detective stories and or magic based fantasy, give this a chance. you won't be disappointed.

Loved it!

A friend had recommended this series so I decided to give it a try. I was hooked within the first chapter. The narrator is fantastic at capturing the dry humor of the main character, and I found certain parts had me laughing aloud. This, of course, got me weird looks from other people in my office, but it was that good!

Enjoy the books more than the show

Would you listen to Storm Front again? Why?

Yes, I would listen to this again and I have saved this for future listening. I look forward to the rest of the Dresden Files audio books. James Marsters brings the dry wit that seems to be the character's trademark.

Smile

it was ok, a little dry. I like the image of the TV series wizard better. But Bob is so much better!!!

Decent, But worth the listen for the next books in the series.

Story is fine, nothing special in of itself. That said it’s the beginning on one of the best storylines in the genre.

It’s one of the Authors 1st books, and you can tell. However the character development is well started, and the book contains important storyline details for the future series.

Stick with the first 2 books (both are decent, not bad), and I believe most people will be quite satisfied with how it all starts to come together in book 3.

One of the best authors and narrators.

So there are many comments about James Marsters narration and I disagree with all the negative ones. I love his real story telling and the true to life personality he breathes into the characters. This is a must listen series!!
