Publisher's summary

Kyle Riggs has been away from Earth for a long time… but that's about to change.

In Storm Assault , the eighth book of the Star Force series, the story moves in a new direction. Massive fleets are built by both Star Force and the Imperials - but there is a third player in the game: the Blues.

A three-way battle for the known star systems breaks out, with the fates of many worlds and species hanging in the balance. Riggs realizes he must destroy his enemies before they destroy him. Seeking justice and revenge, he gathers his strength and ventures out on a mission of conquest from the Eden System. Humanity must fight to survive, and Riggs is the right man for the job.

Storm Assault is a military science-fiction novel by best-selling author B. V. Larson. To listen to the series in its entirety, start with Swarm (Book 1).

Underdogs

What made the experience of listening to Storm Assault the most enjoyable?

You really believe that Star Force was clearly out matched and out gun the whole book- which is a fun angle to explore and that mastermind that is Kyle Riggs has some serious flaws which could lead to the end of Star Force.

What other book might you compare Storm Assault to and why?

Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series has a similar leading protagonist and style of writing

Have you listened to any of Mark Boyett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Mark Boyett is solid reader- I have listen to all of the BV Larson books that he has read in this series

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A couple of spots in the booked moved me- I was so caught up in the the story by the end I had a hard time putting the headphones down.

Any additional comments?

Great series. The story line is getting to a point that needs some refreshing but I can't want to see what happens next.

Two birds with one moon.

What did you love best about Storm Assault?

Marvin. That crazy robot is the best.

What did you like best about this story?

Resolution. Riggs finally kicked his enemies asses and one at least one side of the conflict.

What about Mark Boyett’s performance did you like?

Mark Boyett is great. The guy can really tell a story and he does characters well and always is able to line up his characters never straying from tone or accent. This really helps you to stay in the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, though I had to stop, real life happens and interferes with my books all the time. :-)

Any additional comments?

I think that BV Larson is getting better at writing women. This suffered significantly in his earlier work but I think he might be more on track, though to be fair almost all of them are dead so he doesn't have a lot of female diversity to write about. P.S. I miss Sandra.... :-(

Amazing, but feels rushed

Fantastic, edge of your seat goodness. Great descriptions, but want more. I'd like B.V.Larson to pace the story like in the beginning of the series. Straight through listen.

wow! Incredible. Remarkable writing & performance.

BV Larson is the true heir to Edgar Rice Burroughs. Filled with action, humor, grit, credible science fiction, human insight, and touching pathos. The pacing and details flow by smoothly. Mark Boyett's performance is outstanding and mesmerizing.

Riggs is homeward bound

With the 8th installment of Star Force, Riggs finally makes the decision to save Earth from Crowe. This time out, the design of ever more esoteric nanotized military hardware takes a backseat to political musings and truly alien inventions. Needless to say, nothing goes as planned for Riggs, but he remains ever the opportunist and creates creative solutions for both his new worst enemies, the blues, as well as the Earth defenses.

This time out gravity manipulators are exploited. At the same time Earth has been busy on its own with nightmarish creations of cyborgs as well as as redefined biology. The conclusion is satisfying on many levels and has Riggs entering a new phase of his career, but one that is likely not to be interesting to recount in the future. Alternatively, perhaps Riggs may eventually develop that wanderlust and return to the stars one day for more adventures.

The narration is adequate and complements the pace and style of the story.

Went on binge w/ this very good series.4-4.5 stars

Went on binge w/ this very good series.4-4.5 stars on average. I'm catching up on reviews for books #4-11. At this point I'm ready for a break from the series, but will surely return for more. It's hard to make battle after battle interesting for this sort of space sci-fi book, but this series seems more creative than several similar books, and the overall story is good.
