Publisher's summary

An epic of awesome power from Terry Goodkind, the second installment of the bestselling series A Sword of Truth

Kahlan has at last gained the one goal she had always thought was beyond her grasp...love. Against all odds, the ancient bonds of secret oaths, and the dark talents of men long dead, Richard has won her heart.

Amid sudden and disastrous events, Richard's life is called due to satisfy those treacherous oaths. To save his life, Kahlan must forsake Richard's love and cast him into the chains of slavery, knowing there could be no sin worse than such a betrayal.

Richard is determined to unlock the secrets bound in the magic of ancient oaths and to again be free. Kahlan, alone with the terrible truth of what she has done, must set about altering the course of a world thrown into war. But even that may be easier than ever winning back the heart of the only man she will ever love.

War, suffering, torture, and deceit lie in their paths, and nothing will save them from a destiny of violent death, unless their courage and faith are joined with luck and they find the elusive...Stone of Tears.

Epic edge: listen to more in the Sword of Truth series.

great book

I liked the first narrator better. This one sounds a bit like a robot, but it is still worth the read. I love the story!

Narrator deficiency

This is my favorite book series of all time and I enjoyed the reading of Wizards First Rule by the previous narrator, but this one is monotone and pronounces names incorrectly. So unbelievably disappointed.

Love the book

I'm sorry but at times the narration is horrible and seems like I'm listening to a 6 th grader

Hard on the ears!

I read this series years ago and enjoyed it. Its not one of my top picks but i thought I would give it a listen. I remember now that the story is enjoyable, but It has a bit too much romantic mushyness for me personally. All in all its a good in depth story.
What is not good is the narrator in this book. The first book of the series had a great narrator. Why would they fix what is absolutely not broken? Its definitely broken now. I am suffering through it but i looked at the next several books in the series and it looks like they introduce two new narrators as well as use the one from the first book and this one yet again. I am very disappointed. I will give it a chance but i anticipate not being able to finish listening to this series. Narration is KEY! Consistency is key. I believe its "A Song of Ice and Fire" series that uses the same great narrator. Take notes people!

I love the story progression but...

I prefer the narrator from the first three books. At times this narrator sounded like he was reading to a toddler in slow words and broken up sentences. It was kind of frustrating to listen to. Also, as in the first books in this series, I feel like the author repeats one thought by saying the same thing with different sentences and similar words. Otherwise, I have enjoyed this series thus far. Thanks

Horrible Reading

Would you try another book from Terry Goodkind and/or Jim Bond?

The story is good, though some of Goodkind's writing is weak. However, Jim Bond as the narrator is completely flat and emotionless, each word is spoken with a painful, empty exactness, like a computer reading sound by sound.

Would you recommend Stone of Tears to your friends? Why or why not?

Not really, it's a mindless book I listen to while I do other things.

How could the performance have been better?

Different narrator

Did Stone of Tears inspire you to do anything?

Not buy books narrated by Jim Bond

Reader's choice of accents is unfortunate.

Great book as most of the early Sword of Truth series are.
The reader's use of what seems to be Asian Indian accents detracts a bit but not very much.

His voice is easy to fall to sleep by though.

Good story, horrible reader

The storyline continues in Stone of Tears. The adventure might be a bit overworked for this book, but otherwise a good story. Not the greatest of SciFi adventures, but enjoyable. The only part not enjoyable was the reader. He is stale and makes the book seem so as well. Not an enjoyable listen...
