Publisher's summary

An epic of awesome power from Terry Goodkind, the second installment of the bestselling series A Sword of Truth

Kahlan has at last gained the one goal she had always thought was beyond her grasp...love. Against all odds, the ancient bonds of secret oaths, and the dark talents of men long dead, Richard has won her heart.

Amid sudden and disastrous events, Richard's life is called due to satisfy those treacherous oaths. To save his life, Kahlan must forsake Richard's love and cast him into the chains of slavery, knowing there could be no sin worse than such a betrayal.

Richard is determined to unlock the secrets bound in the magic of ancient oaths and to again be free. Kahlan, alone with the terrible truth of what she has done, must set about altering the course of a world thrown into war. But even that may be easier than ever winning back the heart of the only man she will ever love.

War, suffering, torture, and deceit lie in their paths, and nothing will save them from a destiny of violent death, unless their courage and faith are joined with luck and they find the elusive...Stone of Tears.

Epic edge: listen to more in the Sword of Truth series.

Extremely disappointing narration

Completely ruined by the choice of narrator. Please consider re-recording with a more appropriate narrator

Love this story, but man the narrator...

I should have read the other reviews first. I've read these stories, so I was excited to revisit the series. However, the narrator is horrible. He's very mechanical and has little variance in his voice. After having listened to the first volume, I expected more from the second book. I'm now weary of the third volume. I've already purchased it...

Great book

Overall I really enjoy this series. But Jim Bond sounded like a robot at times, like a computer program that reads out text for the blind.

Great book terrible voice acting

What a great story! I can't believe how bad the voice acting is for such a great book. If they rereleased this with a better voice actor I would buy it again. I will not listen to another book read by Jim Bond. I do not like his portrayal of any of the characters. Which is quite impressive.

Mature content written like a children's book

This fantasy series is well suited for ESL readers.
The story is interesting and enjoyable. The characters are interesting and you do, to a degree, get invested in them. The author's writing is very poor though. VERY poor. Characters often repeat full sentences back to each other which is very odd and nearly breaks immersion. The vocabulary is also very limited. I would estimate the age range of the vocab for native English speakers to be in the 9-11 year old area. If you know any ESL lovers of fantasy I think they would enjoy this series tremendously.

Ex: Kaylen, you mean so much to me, you're the most beautiful girl I have seen in the world, Richard said. Kaylen gasped. Richard why do you say I mean so much to you and I am the most beautiful girl in the world, Kaylen asked

We just read what he said! Why repeat the entire phrase verbatim? The author is either catering to readers with low reading comprehension or attempting to inflate the size of the book. Not to mention the sentence structure and vocabulary used is consistently simple. The writing is at a 4th-5th grade reading level but it's confusing because the content at times is very mature thus making the book not suited for the young reader.

Turned off at first. Great Story.

At the beginning I had trouble getting use to the narrator after listening to the first book. Jim Bond on first impression had seemed to me very robotic but grow on me. He voices the dialogue well but the his narration is dry.

Horrible Narrator

I love this series, and I LOVED the narration for the first book... but gosh, this guy makes even the most exciting bits seem boring, monotonous, and makes the whole book feel like a slog to get through.

it's some serious injustice to the series.

my second favorite book

the first one will always be my favorite, which is why the second is so close. I did prefer the reader of the first book, but this guy gave it his all and did a great job either way. thank you for all this work!
