Publisher's summary

An epic of awesome power from Terry Goodkind, the second installment of the bestselling series A Sword of Truth

Kahlan has at last gained the one goal she had always thought was beyond her grasp...love. Against all odds, the ancient bonds of secret oaths, and the dark talents of men long dead, Richard has won her heart.

Amid sudden and disastrous events, Richard's life is called due to satisfy those treacherous oaths. To save his life, Kahlan must forsake Richard's love and cast him into the chains of slavery, knowing there could be no sin worse than such a betrayal.

Richard is determined to unlock the secrets bound in the magic of ancient oaths and to again be free. Kahlan, alone with the terrible truth of what she has done, must set about altering the course of a world thrown into war. But even that may be easier than ever winning back the heart of the only man she will ever love.

War, suffering, torture, and deceit lie in their paths, and nothing will save them from a destiny of violent death, unless their courage and faith are joined with luck and they find the elusive...Stone of Tears.

Epic edge: listen to more in the Sword of Truth series.

Great story!

Wonderful story. I just wish the storytelling was done by the one that did the first book. At time Jim Bond sounds like a robot reading. He has a monotone through most of the telling. Great story though!

Heart wrenching.

As a reader, or listener in my case, there are times when having knowledge of the other characters in parallel makes you cry out No! This may grant you weird expressions from on lookers as they are not listening with you. The story takes some twists and truns that had my hands and stomach in knots of panic, and the thoughts of Oh snap! However, the voice and affect of the narrator, at times, made me want the agiel of the Mord Sith in my ear, as I felt the pain would be sweet release in comparison. I, having read the reviews, tried desperately to find another narration, but I failed. I was too excited for the story to go on, and gave up, falling victim to the voice of despair.. sorry Mr. Bond. This was a trial, I'm sure of it. Now, having made it, I look towards the green pastures of the next book in the series.

Jim Bond is not my favorite. The book is great.

Jim does not ruin the experience but it is close. Sample the audio before you buy

Good story bad Narrator

Narrator totally inconsistent. Does not do story justice. Very monotone at times. Very disappointing compared to book one author, who was brilliant.

One of My Favorites

I was still on the edge of my seat at momements, even though I've read this before. I read a lot of complaints about Jim Bond as the narrator. Was he the best narrarator ever? No, but I think people are harsh only because it follows the amazing performance of Sam Tsoutsouvas. The audiobook was still very enjoyable.

Great book. I

It was every bit as good as the first and narrated well. It started slow and built up to an outstanding finish.

Good follow up

Overall a very good book, just as engaging as the first. The narration isn't that bad and you get used to it after a little while. The stories are varied, with several deep subplots. The conclusion seemed a little rushed (just like the first), you can certainly tell that he is just setting the story for the next book.

narrator made it a painful listen

due to the horrid "conversation" voice of the narrator the book was a challenge to get through. I just hope he isn't used in other books in the line.
