Publisher's summary

From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Mistborn Trilogy, Brandon Sanderson, comes the first book in a new, action-packed thrill ride of a series - Steelheart. Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.

But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his will.

Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning - and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He's seen Steelheart bleed.

And he wants revenge.

NOW A FOLLOWER OF THE RECKONERS!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

YES!!! This book was AWESOME!!! The way Sanderson changed the superhero genre in this book change the way I see ordinary heroes.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Steelheart?

The ending (won't spoil it tho). The final battle had me at the edge of my seat! I literally stopped working to listen and visualize every word.

What about Macleod Andrews’s performance did you like?

At first I didn't really care for Andrews. I was too busy comparing him to other narrators, but after really getting into this book I can't imagine anyone else. Hope he narrates all of the Reckoners. Hahahaha even now on my next book I'm comparing him to Andrews. PS he's nowhere near Andrews!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The heroes will come... we might just have to help them along. You'll understand what I mean when you're done with this book.

Any additional comments?

This is no ordinary superhero storyline. If you're a skeptic (like I was at first) then your on the right track. The reason I say that is because the way Sanderson portrays the heroes in this book isn't the way you and I see it. Well use to see it. But now that I am done, Sanderson has a walking Reckoner billboard for life! CAN"T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!!

Loved It

What did you love best about Steelheart?

Great story with very cool super hero like people in it. Clever story with some good twists. Parts remind me of superhero comic stories, xmen, and, puzzle/mystery novel. Good writing and a colorful, elaborate story. Can't wait for the next book now.

Couldn't stop listening

Would you consider the audio edition of Steelheart to be better than the print version?

Didn't read the print book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The professor.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I tend to get bored with audio books and give up on them. This one hooked me.

Any additional comments?

I am really a Brandon Sanderson fan and look forward to the rest of this series. Read it right after The Divergent trilogy and loved that it takes place in Chicago.

Excellent idea, very enjoyable read

What did you like best about this story?

Book presents original idea about super powered humans, wrapped in immersing action. With all the incarnations of super heroes in movies, comics, books, games, etc. idea about benevolent super-powered guardians of humanity is deeply rooted in our society. But as history has demonstrated again and again, when people crave for ultimate power to be concentrated in hands of few individuals or groups in order to protect them, it always ends with people being oppressed and enslaved. That is what happens in the world of Steelheart as well, and the story takes up from that to the exciting adventure.

Great book, looking forward to the series

This was a great listen, and by the time I was finished I couldn't believe the 12 hours were up. The narrator was excellent and the pace of the book was perfect. My only gripe was the over use of "sparks" and "calamity", toward the end I found it quite annoying. Aside from that, I look forward to more in this series and other works with this narrator.

Stellar, a must read for sci-fi/super hero geeks

I've never read/listened to anything from Brandon Sanderson so I was greatly pleased to find how much I enjoyed this book. If your a sci-fi/super hero type you'll enjoy this book. It's action pack, the characters are relatable, the main guy, David, you can't help but wanna help him or know him. I grew up in the Star Wars era so I love this kinda stuff. You do NOT have to be a young adult to enjoy this book. What's nice, though I'm female is that the lead is a young guy so while many of the YA books are great out there, it's nice for teen guys to have a lead that they can relate to. My 19 & 15 year old boys liked this book & they hate to read!

The narrator, Macleod Andrews, is awesome! I don't think I've enjoyed listening to any of the many books I've purchased from audible as much as this one. He does a great job and give each character their own unique voice.

Wonderful!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would. It was a fast paced, fun read.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Steelheart?

There were a few. I liked how David seemed real, not just a character. There were a few moments where I wanted to scream at him for being an idiot but then I remembered that he was an 18 year old kid and he acted like it at times.

What about Macleod Andrews’s performance did you like?

He was wonderful, one of the best narrators I have listen to in a long time and I go through about 4 audio books a month.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was. I didn't want to turn off my audible.

He watched Steelhart kill his father, now grown up and ready for revenge. David has found help with the Reckoneers. They have the team David has all the answers!! David has studied and studied the Epics he knows their weakness and every Epic has one now he has to go through with the plan.Who can David trust?Must read!!

Enjoyable

Enough story to keep me very interested and light enough for the hours to fly by.

I really liked this blend of real and fantasy.

The story is set in the real world and surrounded in fantasy, great job and I can't wait for the next in the series.
