From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Mistborn Trilogy, Brandon Sanderson, comes the first book in a new, action-packed thrill ride of a series - Steelheart. Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.
But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.
Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.
And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning - and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.
He's seen Steelheart bleed.
And he wants revenge.

After the mist born series I wasn't sure what to read. Sanderson is awesome and this book is fantastic! I was enthralled from the first chapter. I can't wait for the next book in this series! I will absolutely get all if the rest of his books as well!
I really enjoyed this audiobook! The premise is intriguing and the narrator is fantastic; he was very convincing doing several different voices and accents. I also appreciated that it was kid-friendly. Nothing too suggestive and zero actual curse words, so my kids, 8 and 10, were just as entertained as I was. It was different from other superhero stories out there, which is refreshing. Highly recommend!
This book was simply epic few books leave me with the felling that this book does never saw the ending coming just when I thought I had it figured out simply an epic read had me chuckling at parts sad at others and dump struck in the end!
Engineer in business school. I appreciate every genre but find business/professional reading and epic fantasy best suited to audio format.
This story is a decent introduction to fantasy. The characters are flat and the plot is pretty cliche, but I'm judging against my gold-standard of Rothfuss, who is difficult to touch in terms of character development. Anyone who was offended by the language in the Gentlemen Bastards series will like the toned down language in this book but the alternate swear word really bothered me.
Bottom line, if you like The King killer Chronicles or Wheel of Time series, steer clear. If you want something shorter and fluffier, and potty-mouths offend you, this series will be good for you.
Organic and proud of it!
The narrator was fantastic, all those different voices, and distinct enough that there was no question which character was speaking. Impressive skill at his craft!
Probably not, although I enjoy the fantasy style works from Mr. Sanderson on Audible, but this dystopian style just isn't as captivating to me - that may be a personal bias. After The Hunger Games, Divergent series and such, I may just need a break from this genre for a while.
I don't think so, but I'll need to investigate his work further, he is a captivating narrator!
No, but the author is good at getting me to care about the characters. So I wanted to come back to the book.
I loved it and am excited for the next one in the series:)
At first it does not seem to demonstrate the complexed thinking and plot that is typical for Brandon Sanderson but by the ending, once again I felt baffled at how well he brings if all together.
I am addicted to audio books, mostly fantasy. I have alwayz loved to read but could never find the time. This way I keep my mind occupied with wonderful stories and don't get caught up in life's stresses. I'm so glad I found this site.
Have recommend this series to many ppl since I've listened to it. I suggest u do to!
