From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the Mistborn Trilogy, Brandon Sanderson, comes the first book in a new, action-packed thrill ride of a series - Steelheart. Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.
But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.
Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.
And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning - and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.
He's seen Steelheart bleed.
And he wants revenge.

I had never heard of this series but was looking for something new to listen to, so I checked what was popular at the time (which is unusual for me). I found this series by chance, and so far I am very surprised by how good it is. I don't enjoy superhero movies or stories in general, but this flips the genre on its head and does so in a very enjoyable and satisfying way. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys any kind of science fiction-y sort of books.
The narrator is also top notch, and adds to the story rather than simply relaying it. Great job on that. You really feel that his voice is the lead character, David's voice.
If you're looking for a cheap sappy copy-cat young adult, this is not it. Steelheart is complex. The storytelling is brilliant. The plot moves quickly, there's no way you could be bored. I can't wait to read the next one.
This is the first book I've listened to from this reader... He did a wonderful job.
I enjoyed the reader and the story.
A fantastic novel showing the struggle between good and evil and the effects power has
I usually set the timer when I listen to my books and let them lull me to sleep. Not this one!! I found myself listening to this until 5:30 AM!! It gets your adrenaline going!! I had to force myself to shut it off!! Can't wait to start the next one!
