great book, poor narration

This book is amazing, absolutely loved the content.
The narrator, however, leaves quite a bit to be desired... I know that most books are recorded in sections and then stitched together, but there are chunks of the audio when it suddenly sounds like it was recorded in a broom closet on a tape recorder from 1986. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but there are frequent portions of the narration when the audio quality changes drastically all of a sudden and then changes again. If I hadn't predownloaded this audiobook onto my phone, I might be able to believe that it was a bad connection or buffering or something, but that isn't the case.

Classic SF, expertly done!

Starship Troopers is classic SF by Heinlein. The recording appears to be unabridged and is expertly done by the narrator!

‘Troopers was meant to be a morality tale, not an action movie.

Starship Troopers was never meant to be an action movie so if you’ve seen the Hollywood version and are thinking that you’d like to relive it in your mind’s eye, you are going to be severely disappointed. More so because the narrator sounded bored and fairly monotone throughout the reading. Also, there are various parts in the recording where the sound quality changes for a sentence or two and then returns to a more normal tone of voice. I’m fairly certain that they needed to change or re-record a short portion and the change was not using the same recording settings. It’s a minor thing but, distracting. I had more of an issue with the narrator’s bland reading than recording issues.

This is an excellent narration of one of the best works of science fiction ever penned.

excellent story crap audio

excellent story follows more the animated series vs the movie. I loved when they got into how their society is structured. only thing that kinda sucked was the monotone voice if the reader and the poor recording. sometimes it took me out of the story. All around though worth the buy.

Incredible Tactics with Deep Philosophy

One of the most mentally engaging a I do books I have read to date. Doesn’t just focus on action but the philosophy behind it as well! Beautifully done.

really great SciFi. Although the campy movie is a guilty pleasure, I would love to see a real adaptation done.

Grew Up On The Movie, Love The Book Even More

I greatly enjoyed this book. While I'm newer to recreational literature, I grew up on the movie going in to this book with the expectation of what I had seen in the movie.This book was my bridge in to recreational literature, and this book based on one of my favorite movies made it happen. I was blown away, this book much more then the movie. The book was well narrated by Loyd James with a few minor overdubs and such which did not ruin the experience. While Reading I felt a sense of pride, feeling like I would have made many of the same choices that Johnny made. I think that if i was made to read this book in high school i would have really considered joining the military, and to this day if necessary i would not hesitate. This book is my definition of citizenship. I would recommend this book to any of those interested in Si-Fi / Military.
