Publisher's Summary

The mysterious and powerful Starseers have Captain Alisa Marchenko's daughter, and she will do whatever she must to get her back, even if it means traveling to their stronghold and confronting them personally. Unfortunately, her strongest ally, the cyborg Leonidas, may become a liability since the cyborgs and the Starseers have a long history of hating each other. It doesn't help that Leonidas and Dr. Dominguez have a mission of their own, one that could jeopardize all that Alisa is fighting for.

    "I want them all"

I just breezed through this book...well, actually, the first three books and went looking for book 4 in the Fallen Empire series but it isn't there yet. Hopefully, it will be soon because I did hear Kate Reading's first chapter of 4 after the epilogue of this book. I guess I'm just not patient when I know that the entire series of 8 books (so far) plus novella's are in print. Not patient at all.

When you find a series you love you get a little demanding or at least I do. It's like fine chocolate or truffles. You want to splurge on it. This series has my attention. I can't wait for what happens next. Hope the wait isn't long.

I like Linsey burokers book in audio format. they are fun to listen to. I own the texts, but it is fun to hear another person's interpretation of the character's.

    Story
"Firefly with a Female Captain - only Better!"
What did you love best about Starseers?

Everything - Seriously - what is not to love?
This has a real Firefly feeling to it, with a crew of misfits, A Captain trying to find her Daughter, a Mechanic just wanting a job, a Mercenary Security Guard being hunted by the Mob, and their passengers; a Strange Girl who wants to be a Star Seer, a Cyborg from a dead Empire trying to survive, and a Monk with an Orb that could change the Universe.
This group are all trying to achieve their various missions - even if it costs some of them their lives. This is a continuing saga - following Alisa Marchenko, the Nomad's Captain, as she tries to find her Daughter, who was taken by Star Seers (she thinks), Along the way, she has picked up a bunch of passengers. She has her crew, her Mechanic Mika, and her Security Guard Beck. Her passengers, Yumi, Leonidas (the Cyborg) and Alejandro (the Monk) all add to her adventure. In amongst this, Alejandro is trying to seek what the Orb does.
To answer their questions (about her missing daughter and his Orb), they go to find the mysterious Star Seers - and this is where the adventure begins.
The Star Seers are psychics - with mental abilities ranging from telepathy and telekinesis all the way to pyrokinesis - the ability to create and manipulate fire with the mind.
Lindsay Buroker writes a wonderful story with brilliant characters. Her character work is easily the best thing about these stories (although the stories themselves are exceptional), but they are brought to life by the Characters, giving real depth to the story.
This series is fantastic, but Star Seers has added a new layer to the series as the Characters have continued to grow - and as they grow, so does the story, and your relationship with it.
    Outstanding writing!

Who was your favorite character and why?

The stoic character of Leonidas would be a favourite - he is a really awesome character in this series.
However - it is a close second with Alisa and Mika - they are both hilarious with their commentary and humorous banter throughout the books.

Which character – as performed by Kate Reading – was your favorite?

This would have to be a toss up between Alisa and Mika. She does such a good job of doing each of the voices, but the level of sarcasm, contempt at different points she adds for Mika, the humour for Alisa in her jokes, and seriousness at other points.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh at several points - there is a lot of humour in this book, and some really funny bits. This is where the similarity to Firefly comes in - Alisa has a lot in common with Mal Reynolds - his demeanour and attitude, and it is hilarious to read.

    Any additional comments?

The Fallen Empire Series is absolutely brilliant - very comparable to Firefly, and with similarities to Star Wars with the Empire having fallen to the Alliance. It raises some interesting questions about what happens after an organised Government (even one that is oppressive) falls, and a group of Rebels, unorganised and undisciplined, take their place. The chaos that ensues and the lawlessness is rampant, and causes significant issues and problems for the general population as they have to suffer with all the thugs/crime etc.
Thats what makes this a really interesting series, the mix of philosophy with humour, action and tech, and good sci-fi - Buroker has it all.
This is a brilliant series and should not be missed by anyone.

    "Excellent continuing series"
If you could sum up Starseers in three words, what would they be?

    Non-stop Galactic adventure

What was one of the most memorable moments of Starseers?

I loved everything about this book and narrator. It's a great series you need to read in order by an author who writes science fiction, fantasy, steampunk and a touch of romance

What does Kate Reading bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings action to the narration with intonation changes for the different characters. To me that is what makes a good narrator.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, just enjoy listening to it after having read it.

    Any additional comments?

    No
