Publisher's Summary

Here is a special edition 20th anniversary release of the number-one New York Times best-selling novel that reignited the entire Star Wars publishing phenomenon - unabridged for the first time. The biggest event in the history of Star Wars books, Heir to the Empire follows the adventures of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia after they led the Rebel Alliance to victory in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.

Five years after the Death Star was destroyed and Darth Vader and the Emperor were defeated, the galaxy is struggling to heal the wounds of war, Princess Leia and Han Solo are married and expecting twins, and Luke Skywalker has become the first in a long-awaited line of new Jedi Knights.

But thousands of light-years away, the last of the Emperor’s warlords - the brilliant and deadly Grand Admiral Thrawn - has taken command of the shattered Imperial fleet, readied it for war, and pointed it at the fragile heart of the New Republic. For this dark warrior has made two vital discoveries that could destroy everything the courageous men and women of the Rebel Alliance fought so hard to create.

The explosive confrontation that results is a towering epic of action, invention, mystery, and spectacle on a galactic scale - in short, a story worthy of the name Star Wars.

More in the Thrawn Trilogy we have. And listen to all of our Star Wars titles you can!

"A must read for any Star Wars fan"
Would you listen to Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition), The Thrawn Trilogy, Book 1 again? Why?

I would absolutely listen to the Heir to the Empire audiobook again. Marc Thompson has an uncanny ability to bring our favorite SW characters back to life. He not only imitates the voices of the characters but he also instills the correct mannerisms and inflections that only an expert narrator could. Thus listening to an audibook narrated by him is akin to watching one of the movies.

What other book might you compare Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (20th Anniversary Edition), The Thrawn Trilogy, Book 1 to and why?

The work put into this book has the same amount of professionalism and experience as the other books narrated by Thompson. The characters sound like what they're supposed to and the sounds are phenomenal. Of course no one can forget John Williams score which is also used in this book.

Have you listened to any of Marc Thompson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Recently I listened to the Force Awakens narrated by Marc Thompson. Both TFA and HttE are unparalled in terms of the expertise of the work that went into making the audiobooks.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved how dedicated the Wookiees were in protecting Leia. It really showed how seriously they took honor and repaying a debt to past saviors.

    Any additional comments?

The only negative part of this audibook I would have to say is Mara Jade. Not only is she a cold-hearted and conniving villain throughout most of the book, I also feel that this is one of Thompson's weaker performances. She almost sounds like a man due to the performance and I really hope that she's more tolerable in Dark Force Rising. It's almost surprising that she turns out to be Luke's wife.

Love having an unabridged version, this book and its attention to detail is phenomenal! The sound effects and voicing are endearing. Looking forward for the other two!

some of the chapters have an unbearable hum in the background that distracts entirely from the story. I think it's the chapters on the falcon
