    "Better than the movie"

Much like with Episode II, Lucas trimmed down a LOT of the story for "pacing" reasons when he made the final cut of Episode I. Unfortunately, those things would have added quite a bit to the story. In addition, Lucas has many movie-making skills, but writing dialogue and directing are NOT two of them.

Fortunately, all three of those issues are fixed in the novelizations for Episodes I and II. If you're interested in Star Wars enough to even be reading this review right now, you'll probably enjoy the book. It was much better than the movie, and there's quite a bit of content that didn't exist in the film.

"Well written, but cheesy sound effects"

It would have been better had they not used sound effects; while some of them are actual Star Wars sound effects, some clearly are not (including a really cheesy motorcycle sound effect for Annakin's speeder). That aside, the narration was quite good.

    "More Insight"

Like all books, the big advantage over the movie is the additional insight that you get. While the action does closely mirror the movie the book lets you get inside the minds of the main characters and understand them better. They also discuss the history of the Jedi and Sith, which is not discussed in the movie. There are also a number of scenes that didn't make it into the movie. I could have done without the sound effects though. They add nothing.

    "Awesome story.... Star Wars begins....."
If you could sum up Star Wars Episode I in three words, what would they be?

    Awesome Epic Adventures !!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Star Wars Episode I?

Anakin over coming some of his fears, with the Force that is inside him !! And meeting Yoda and other characters !

Which character – as performed by Alexander Adams – was your favorite?

Binks ! One never knew what Jar Ja would do, next ! Amazing character !

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I knew I was not setting, in one session and listen to this all the way through. A lot of information to absorb.

"Great Story. Action, suspense, and humor."

My family loves this series. We started out with the original Star Wars trilogy in audio which is great also.
After having heard the narrator read several westerns and Huckleberry Finn it took a little bit to accept his voice for sic-fi but he does a great job.
Some have complained about the sound effects. My family thinks they were great.
These stories are clean and kid friendly.

    "WOW"

If you liked the movies and just want more information on the story this is a must read. I though that it was a great book. The sound effects and voices made the story that more fun to listen to.

    "Way Too Much"

The sound effects are really annoying. They are so loud that they really take you out of the story. The story itself is okay, but skip this unless you can really tune out distractions.

    "Stupid sound effects"

A couple of sound effects sprinkled through a book I can tolerate, but this book had constant sound effects and was really annoying.
I also thought it was weird that George Lucas wasn't the author, but then it said in the intro that it was a novel based on his screen play. I was hoping for a more indepth story with more details and not just a retelling of what I had already watched on the big screen.
The reader's voice did a barely tolerable job at mimicking Yoda's distinct voice. Also, the author didn't capture Yoda's famous reverse sentences. With this book, not impressed, I am.

"Not My Favorite SW Movie, Not Much Different Here"

Above all, I love Star Wars. In the films, this story was my least favorite due to the heavy handed try at creating a new frenzy from an old classic.

In the story itself, there was a decent backstory, but a lot of the moments left out in the film didn't matter much in this book for me. I think after all of it, there was not a whole bunch I took away from it other than being another take on the first episode.

The narrator... not too shabby. Some of the voices were annoying. Jar Jar is still a tool in my opinion. And for God's sake, Palpateen, not Palpatiine...

It still has the same plot issues everyone complains about the movies for however it is a must read. it explains things about the story that the movies couldn't possibly capture, gives you some backstory that was interesting to learn, and shows you more of Anakins life before meeting the Jedi.
