Publisher's summary

He was the most powerful Sith lord who ever lived... but could he be the only one who never died?

“Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise? It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise that he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying." -Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith

Darth Plagueis: one of the most brilliant Sith Lords who ever lived. Possessing power is all he desires. Losing it is the only thing he fears. As an apprentice, he embraces the ruthless ways of the Sith. And when the time is right, he destroys his Master - but vows never to suffer the same fate. For like no other disciple of the dark side, Darth Plagueis learns to command the ultimate power... over life and death.

Darth Sidious: Plagueis’s chosen apprentice. Under the guidance of his Master, he secretly studies the ways of the Sith, while publicly rising to power in the galactic government, first as Senator, then as Chancellor, and eventually as Emperor.

Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious, Master and acolyte, target the galaxy for domination - and the Jedi Order for annihilation. But can they defy the merciless Sith tradition? Or will the desire of one to rule supreme, and the dream of the other to live forever, sow the seeds of their destruction?

Great for a Star Wars fan

I enjoyed this book, but it's certainly a book with a very specific target audience. It is written for Star Wars nerds, and more specifically for prequel fans. If you're a casual or an OT purist, this book isn't for you.

In particular I enjoyed the insight it gave into the saga's main villain, Emperor Palpatine. And it was also nice how it fleshed out the events of the Phantom Menace era -- Dooku, Syfo Dyas, the clone army, and so on. It also has some cool Sith lore in the vein of the Darth Bane books. Like how the Sith think and why.

Little politic heavy, but still good

It’s a solid story that shows how the sith had been working behind the scenes to further their final goal. It answers the dumber question of “how did they afford that” or “how did they not know what was going on”. It very cloak and dagger. This is more like watching a chess match then a sword duel. Would recommend if that’s what you like.

Oh. My. God.

This was written so well, I restarted it as soon as it ended. Three times now. I am such a huge fan of Star Wars, the movies, shows, audio books. Everything. But this… this is a MASTERPIECE!! How detailed and well thought out this was simply put me on cloud 9. Being able to get a story straight from the point of view of the two most powerful Sith and to listen as they climbed higher and higher in the Galactic power structure was a gift. I truly hope there are more of these that will eventually come out. About Darth Tenebrous and even his master all the way back to the original three books on Darth Bane. This was simply incredible. I even felt bad for Plagueis when Sidious killed him. To make me feel bad for a Sith is just wild. I felt like I knew them. I felt like I was behind the scenes being given classified information. Simply a work of art, with the best voice actor of all time. I’m gonna listen to it agin.

masterful

After 4 listens, the story and voice acting get better and better. It makes me sad each time thinking that it is no longer a canon story. the thought behind each detail is so well crafted. it's a shame that this telling was brushed aside. personally, I'll continue to hold this as what actually happens.

Great read!

I truly hope they make this into a movie. The book was very well written, and gave a lot of information that was needed for the reader to understand who Darth plague us was.

One of the greatest pieces of Star Wars media ever

What an amazing read. James Luceno tells such a captivating and awe inspiring story packed to the brim with countless nuggets of information for any die hard fan. Providing further backstory for so many of the events that unfold on screen, as well as telling other, equally as informative and important stories that further the characters. An amazing piece of literature end to end, and one that anyone who calls themselves a Star Wars fan must add to their list. Daniel Davis also provides amazing narration in this audiobook production as well, really immerses you into the characters even more.

overall excellent

This is the story of the master and his apprentice Darth Sidious. Plagueis is the main character but then it switches over to Sidious. This book explains perfectly how Palpatine got to his position.

The voice acting was on point and I very much appreciated listening to Daniel Davis

I wasn't really into the overly political aspect of the tale, but I did enjoy the relationship between Sidious and Plagueis and how it developed and ended.
