New York Times best seller

For the infamous, power-hungry Sith, beholden to the dark side, the time has come to rise again.

After years of waiting in the shadows, Darth Sidious is taking the first step in his master plan to bring the Republic to its knees. Key to his scheme are the Neimoidians of the Trade Federation. Then one of his Neimoidian contacts disappears, and Sidious does not need his Force-honed instincts to suspect betrayal. He orders his apprentice, Darth Maul, to hunt the traitor down.

But he is too late. The secret has already passed into the hands of information broker Lorn Pavan, which places him right at the top of Darth Maul's hit list. Then, in the labyrinthine alleyways and sewers of Coruscant, capital city of the Republic, Lorn crosses paths with Darsha Assant, a Jedi Padawan on a mission to earn her Knighthood. Now the future of the Republic depends on Darsha and Lorn. But how can an untried Jedi and an ordinary man, stranger to the powerful ways of the Force, hope to triumph over one of the deadliest killers in the galaxy?

This special edition features an all-new Darth Maul short story as well as “Star Wars:® Darth Maul: Saboteur” - both written by New York Times best-selling author James Luceno!

Critic reviews

"Full of lightsaber battles, the Jedi philosophy, and lots of new life forms." (Chicago Sun-Times)
"Reaves writes with a creative flair, allowing readers to experience an almost cinematic sensation as they move through the story. The language is colorful, the action scenes are dynamic, and the dialogue is realistic." (Winston-Salem Journal)

very enjoyable.

i enjoyed this more than i thought i would, since i struggled to read the book my self, i choose this as an audio book and was pleased with the story although its not as much about Darth Maul, more about his targets involved in his mission. but enjoyable none the less. And the narrator did a great job, also loved the music and sound effects added over aswell.

Another awesome maul book

My only complaint would be that I wish it would have been more maul centric if that makes sense. I loved lockdown because it was him just winning haha but this was awesome too!!!

Not one of my favorite Star Wars books

This was not one of my favorite Star Wars books. The sound effects were not of the same quality as the later books. The mission and story line of this book is referenced in the Darth Plagueis book, which is a really good lead in to The Phantom Menace.

Maul side story with some inconsistencies.

Its a pretty good story however with good character development. The actions of Maul don't flow with his behavior in phantom menace imho. Sound production is a bit low budget or dated. Narrator doesn't get all the voices right.

Great story about a favorite Star Wars character!

I just wish that there was more actually about Darth Maul himself. It is creatively split up between multiple story lines that all come together nicely, but I would have liked more Maul.

Well written

As much as you you will expect from a Star Wars Novel. It really brings Episode I into perspective.

Darth Maul in Action

Good book. Great to see Darth Maul in action and Darth Sidious plotting. A good read. Nice ending and prelude to Episode I

This book is very much in the vein of other Star Wars novels especially movie lead in's.

What does Michael Cumpsty bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He truly brings out hte unique inflection of each of the characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Fury Unleashed!

Any additional comments?

Short Story

The ending was anticlimatic when taking into account the surrounding events, left me with an 'okay, so what' feeling rather than insight into the days before the blockade. Interesting background story into Darth Maul, but too short.

Good but Incomplete

I mostly enjoyed this book, however when trying to read along with the physical book, I noticed that the audiobook jumped around and skipped multiple lines and paragraphs. This was disappointing.
