Publisher's summary

The next chapter in the extraordinary history of the star Wars galaxy begins here...

After a violent civil war and the devastation wrought by the now-fallen Darth Caedus, the Galactic Alliance is in crisis - and in need. From all corners, politicians, power brokers, and military leaders converge on Coruscant for a crucial summit to restore order, negotiate differences, and determine the future of their unified worlds. But even more critical, and far more uncertain, is the future of the Jedi.

In a shocking move, Chief of State Natasi Daala orders the arrest of Luke Skywalker for failing to prevent Jacen Solo’s turn to the dark side and his subsequent reign of terror as a Sith Lord. But it’s only the first blow in an anti-Jedi backlash fueled by a hostile government and suspicious public. When Jedi Knight Valin Horn, scion of a politically influential family, suffers a mysterious psychotic break and becomes a dangerous fugitive, the Jedi become the target of a media-driven witch hunt. Facing conviction on the damning charges, Luke must strike a bargain with the calculating Daala: his freedom in exchange for his exile from Coruscant and from the Jedi Order.

Though forbidden to intervene in Jedi affairs, Luke is determined to keep history from being repeated. With his son, Ben, at his side, Luke sets out to unravel the shocking truth behind Jacen Solo’s corruption and downfall. But the secrets he uncovers among the enigmatic Force mystics of the distant world Dorin may bring his quest - and life as he knows it - to a sudden end. And all the while, another Jedi Knight, consumed by the same madness as Valin Horn, is headed for Coruscant on a fearsome mission that could doom the Jedi Order...and devastate the entire galaxy.

A Good start

Would you consider the audio edition of Star Wars to be better than the print version?

Marc Thompson, the music and sound effects always add something to it. I read the ebook before so I'd forgotten most of what I read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I'll always be a Luke/Leia/Han/Lando fan, but Jag is becoming Cool and Jaina is rising to prominence. Interestingly enough, the young versions of the rogues and the Darkmeld folks are in "Scoundrels" and having just read that book and then listening to this one was quite a rewarding thing.

Which scene was your favorite?

The sending off scene where everyone says good bye to Luke. Choked up. Just sayin.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Didn't laugh or cry, but I did get that guttural response to injustice. That "are you kidding me?" feeling when the Jedi are getting persecuted. That is different for a SW book! This is not for the Happy-story-only crowd.

Any additional comments?

SW books is like reading about people I grew up with. Sounds sappy but that's why I keep coming back.

This is Star Wars!

Credit where credit is due. After bumbling through the abridged to death series preceding this novel... I am delighted with everything about Outcast. There is action and adventure to be sure. But the small snippets of comic relief were wonderful. And a more personal father & son relationship between Luke and Ben was simply fantastic. Good story, well narrated, production & music give a true Star Wars feel. Thank you for leaving it intact.

Fun little series

Where does Star Wars rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have found it difficult to figure out the order in which to listen to the star wars series of novels. There is nothing worse than listening to a series and starting another only to find that you missed a series and a few of your favorite characters have died... Be sure to visit wookieepedia before jumping right into a series to make sure you are listening to them in order.

The 'Legacy of the Force' series should be read before 'Fate of the Jedi'. Audible only has them abridged. I have not listened to them, but I wish I would have.

The best series I have listened to is the Thrawn Trilogy by far.

I would listen to the Star Wars books in the following order:

The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn
Heir to the Empire
Dark Force Rising
The Last Command

The Hand of Thrawn Duology by Timothy Zahn
Specter of the Past
Vision of the Future

The Legacy of the Force series
Legacy of the Force: Betrayal by Aaron Allston
Legacy of the Force: Bloodlines by Karen Traviss
Legacy of the Force: Tempest by Troy Denning
Legacy of the Force: Exile by Aaron Allston
Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice by Karen Traviss
Legacy of the Force: Inferno by Troy Denning
Legacy of the Force: Fury by Aaron Allston
Legacy of the Force: Revelation by Karen Traviss
Legacy of the Force: Invincible by Troy Denning

The Fate of the Jedi series
Fate of the Jedi: Outcast by Aaron Allston
Fate of the Jedi: Omen by Christie Golden
Fate of the Jedi: Abyss by Troy Denning
Fate of the Jedi: Backlash by Aaron Allston
Fate of the Jedi: Allies by Christie Golden
Fate of the Jedi: Vortex by Troy Denning
Fate of the Jedi: Conviction by Aaron Allston
Fate of the Jedi: Ascension by Christie Golden
Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse by Troy Denning

I will update this list as I listen to additional series and include it in my reviews for future reference.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Star Wars?

The first book in the series is a good one. The only thing I don't like is how the Jedi have become more flippant and less reserved in their dealings. I have always envisioned the Jedi as wise and careful with words. Seeing them act and speak on emotion is odd. I am not saying it is a bad thing, just different. The series seems like it will be a good one. I will sum up my review on the final book.

What about Marc Thompson’s performance did you like?

What is there to say about Marc Thompson... He is a legendary narrator. I have heard no better.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Outcast

Any additional comments?

Audible wont let me link it, but a good reference guide to make sure you are listening to all the series in order is wookiepedia. It would be nice if Audible had them all in order, but they don't.

Marc Thompson.... Enough Said!!!!

Every Star Wars Novel narrated by Marc Thompson immediately becomes my new favorite. (Although admittedly the early abridgment made lots of novels hard to bare regardless of any performance & effects) Marc Thompson makes even the worst become semi palatable. I wish they could do the entire NJO series over, unabridged and all Marc Thompson. Although purchasing the first 19 audiobooks feels like flushing money. I would gladly repurchase the entire series if redone with those 2 standards. Aside from Thompson’s incredible ability to bring basically any & all characters from our favorite galaxy far far away to life despite sex, or species. This was a great novel. Felt like an actual fresh start to new chapter. After last 3 series basically all threw us immediately into unending galaxy wide war for 200$ worth of novels then all the sudden simply and quickly ended in final with very little closure on the many leads and unanswered questions. (By the way please stop killing or turning dark, all the best new characters) I hate that we lost 80% of the solo family (chewy, Jason, & personally most shocking Anakin) and Mara Jade. But despite all that This newest chapter is feels like maybe I won’t know what happens next until I read the next book. A very nice change of pace, and new wave of unpredictability. 100% recommend this book (plus in case I forgot to mention... it’s Marc Thompson!!! )

An amazing start to an Amazing series!!

An amazing book great start to an amazing series, fate of the Jedi is everything Star Wars is really supposed to be, and it's everything Disney destroyed about Star wars, yeah at the same time being a sad farewell to the real Star Wars story that will never hear at the end of. the actor does an amazing job of bringing these characters that we followed for facade come to life. This series and legacies of the force that came before it should have been the Star Wars that Disney should have made come to life. It is devastating to know that although there's one more book after this chapter of the real Star wars universe that the galaxy they were setting into motion with the fate of the Jedi series will never see the light of day. The Disney buyout that killed the real Star wars was akin to mass genocide of an entire galaxy and I'm glad they lost money on destroying the galaxy many of us grew up in.
