Publisher's summary

The chilling tale of the undead in a galaxy far, far away.

“This is the Star Wars of every horror fan’s dreams—gory, funny, and brimming with a blood-spattered cast of swashbucklers and space-zombies.”—Seth Grahame-Smith, author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

When the Imperial prison barge Purge—temporary home to five hundred of the galaxy’s most ruthless killers, Rebels, scoundrels, and thieves—breaks down in a distant part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back—bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours, nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine.

And death is only the beginning.

The Purge’s half-dozen survivors will do whatever it takes to stay alive. But nothing can prepare them for what lies waiting aboard the Star Destroyer. For the dead are rising: soulless, unstoppable, and unspeakably hungry.

Incredible

I read this book on paperback once when I was younger, the audio and ambient noises made this book come alive and made my hairs stand on end as I was listening. What a thrilling Star Wars adventure.

Horrifying and Fun!

A wonderfully crafted horror story based in the Star Wars Universe. Imperials, Smugglers, Stormtroopers, Wookies, and Zombies, it just can't get any better

A fantastic and tense listen!

I loved listening to this first genre crossover with the Star Wars sci-fi and horror. I would recommend this audiobook to anyone who enjoys Star Wars and who enjoy gory horror audiobooks. The performance is fantastic with the narrator providing great inflection and extra sounds.

AMAZING & ADDICTING

This book is a masterpiece. It kept me hooked for the entire read and the narrator Sean Kenin deserves an award for his incredible performance. I’ll definitely be looking for more Star Wars books by Joe Schreiber.

Definitely a good Star Wars horror.

The narrator's voice was odd to me at first, but I grew to love it about a third of the way in. The fact he did different, consistent voices for each character was amazing. It was made better that there was actual Star Wars music and sounds used throughout. The story its self was well written, except for the inclusion of two well known characters. It still worked, but would of liked if it was other characters that didn't have plot armor. Definitely a creepy atmosphere with horrid and visercal imagery I didn't think was possible for Star Wars. Highly recommend. The Doctor was definitely my favorite character.

Star Wars meets the Walking Dead!

Two of your favorite heroes will make a surprise appearance in this creepy thriller. The characters are just interesting enough for this short horror show of a story.

Pleasantly surprised by this one!

I'm not huge on the Star Wars extended universe and I haven't read any novelizations since Shadows of the Empire came out in 1996. That being said this audiobook blew me away with the quality of narration, sound effects, and a story that didn't seem too outlandish or convoluted (even for Star Wars). Wrap it up in a package that takes less than a full work shift to finish and you have a great distraction from the real world plague.

Genuinely terrifying, and also a real tear jerker.

The infamous zombie craze of the late 2000's and early 2010s has a reputation for producing oversaturated and cliche media. However, death troopers is a major exception and an absolute masterpiece. The narrative is riveting and the characters, including even the minor ones are amazingly well written and I became very attached to them. there are some very emotional and powerful scenes contributing to some really well-done character development. some of these scenes were so beautiful that they actually brought a tear to my eye. as for the horror, it transcends zombie fiction. instead of being the slogfest of shock and gore that much zombie horror is known for, death troopers is, instead, a slow build up of dread and riviting suspense that accumulates as the book goes on before erupting into an explosion of nightmares like a volcano of spine-chilling horror. a fair warning however. one thing i should mention is that this book is NOT your average kid-friendly star wars book, it is a HORROR NOVEL. It does not hold back AT ALL, there are extremely violent and disturbing rebirth-of-darth-vader-level scenes of gore, dismemberment, mutilation, and cannibalism that are made all the more terrifying when coupled with Death Trooper's expert build up of atmospheric tension. it is NOT for the faint of heart. that being said, this is truly an amazing work of literature and a MUST-READ not only for Star wars fans, but also for horror fans in general, as well as anyone who wants to hear a well-done story with well-written characters.

Sartoris is the best character in my humble opinion.

Good first half

Thought the first half of the story was great, but the second half of the book was a little less interesting. Well written and well performed, just less interesting and suspenseful in the latter half.

Wish it was still canon

It's a good story and the performance was great. I just wish Disney would just make it canon.
