Publisher's Summary

National Public Radio's 1981 adaptation of Star Wars was one of the most successful presentations in the history of radio: and a very tough act to follow. Nevertheless, two years later, the members of the Star Wars production team eagerly returned to create a radio version of The Empire Strikes Back.

Like its predecessor, this electrifying drama boasts an outstanding cast (including Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Anthony Daniels as See Threepio, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, and John Lithgow as Yoda); a greatly expanded script, with many scenes not found in the movie; and audio engineering of unparalleled excellence. The Empire Strikes Back takes you once more into a galaxy of pure sound and limitless imagination for an adventure you'll never forget.

Don't miss the NPR dramatizations of Star Wars and Return of the Jedi.

    "Excellent!"

The performance is great and the story more detailed than the movie. Loved these when I got hold of them on cassette back in the early 80s. Am glad to have the complete production now.

terrific again, love the extra dialogue of the characters, vader is more evil in these versions rather than seeing the movies.

I enjoy both Fiction and Non Fiction Books. Not having the best of eye sight, Audible books are a bonus. Great stuff.

"Much, much better than Star Wars"
What made the experience of listening to Star Wars the most enjoyable?

This was read like a story without the interruptions of saying the same thing over and over like Star Wars did.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Didn't really have a favorite character. Liked them all :)

Which character – as performed by Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, – was your favorite?

    I enjoyed all of them.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Great science fiction!

    Any additional comments?

A good read / listen. Recommended for Science Fiction fans.

    "The Sister Problem"

This NPR radio production follows the legendary 13 part Star Wars adaptation, and it just can't stand up to it. One problem is the length: while the original Star Wars had a wealth of locations and situations to build on, Empire does not, so many of the situations feel forced. Luke and Han spending the night in the snows of Endor, talking about their feelings? Not interested.
The second part is actually no fault of the production: it builds on the romantic triangle between Han, Luke, and Leia. In any other story this would be natural: it is even suggested in the Empire film. This production just makes a bigger deal about Luke and Leia's kiss and their attraction for one another. Perfectly natural...since this production was released 6 months before the release of the Return of the Jedi film, and no doubt they kept the bombshell that Luke and Leia were siblings a closely guarded secret. Unfortunately knowing that makes many of the scenes...awkward.

    "Nice but could be better"

The story in and of its self is well done. What isnt done well is the repetitive re-announcing and ending of where this was done. You could easily cut 35 min of this Star Wars dramatization by taking out the NPR announcements and chapter endings and Star Wars theme music at every start and end of every chapter...

"The Best Movie EVER = The BEST Audiobook EVER!"
What did you love best about Star Wars?

    Are you serious!?

Who was your favorite character and why?

Everything Anthony Daniels and Mark Hamill voiced is epic!

What does Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ha ha ha! What?! Look, if anyone else were to read the book it was still going to be great. Having them read it, no, not read it, dramatize it made it freaking EPIC!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Wait... give me a second. Let me see how can I answer this one without using explicit language... better, give me a minute. What the bologna? I can't answer this one in a way I wont get banned from ever reviewing audiobooks again. If that does not answers it I prefer to pass.

    Any additional comments?

If you liked the movie... this is a no brainer. If you didn't why the hell are you still reading this review... sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. Let me be political correct and diplomatic: This Audiobook get you must.

    "Excellent and Highly Recommended!"

We got this after enjoying the first audio book in the series (Star Wars) and couldn't be happier with getting the next in the series. It wasn't long after purchase that we started listening and before we knew it we had listened to it all.

Its an excellent story and done very well for audio listeners, with great narrators and its great having different narrators for each character as its makes it a very enjoyable listen. You get into the story really well and if you gave seen the films (the original ones) then you even start to imagine scenes from the film.

Thoroughly enjoyed this audio book and cannot wait to get the next in the series. Highly recommended to all and I know this will be listened to again and again.

"Another jewel in the Star Wars crown"

Before you listen to The Empire Strikes Back, listen the Star Wars.

The advice isn't isn't based on potential plot confusion but it will help to embed the voices, style and feel of the production which is strangely familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time.

Again, the performances are strong and the additional scenes are a intriguing for those that are fans of the film.

Once again, Perry King's performance of Han Solo is as good as Harrison Fords.

    It's lovely, enjoy it!

    "Another fantastic production"

Has the same high quality production as the original and because of the increased length of running enables them to add in some small sub parts that make some parts of the film make more sense.

Highly recommended if you are a fan of the films (& most would say this was the best film of the original 3)
