    "Big Problems"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    Having the whole recording

Has Star Trek, The Next Generation: Q-Squared (Adapted) turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not even, I love this book. In fact John de Lancie is one of the best readers of all time, but I want the whole recording.

How could the performance have been better?

No. I've heard the whole thing before, Its great.

What character would you cut from Star Trek, The Next Generation: Q-Squared (Adapted)?

None. The story and characters are great but its not all there.

    Any additional comments?

Let me make this clear. I love this book. In fact its my favorite of the Star Trek books. But I would like the whole reading of the book. Its not that its been abriged too much, half of the recording is missing.

    "Abridged version is aweful"
Would you try another book from Peter David and/or John de Lancie?

Why on earth is this abridged? I read the book years ago and loved how it interwove multiple storylines and aspects from both classic Trek and the Next Generation. When I saw John de Lancie narrating, I thought it would be fun to listen to the Audible performance. I didn't see the "Abridged" notation on the item, and only upon listening did I realize that there was a problem. The abridged version only tells a small fraction of the story, and the missing pieces are so great as to render the story line incomprehensible. There's no reason to abridge this either. The original book isn't very large, and there's certainly nothing controversial about the subject matter. I can't imagine what the impetus was. Maybe deLancie's fee was too high? But then why use him as the narrator?

Do yourself a favour and stay away.

"There's abridged and then there's slaughtered!!!"

I purchased this download thinking it was a download-version of the two-cassette abridged version released years ago. Too bad, this download consists of only the material from the second cassette.

Abridged is one thing, but only providing the second half of an already abridged story is quite another. The real tragedy of it is this work by Peter David is conceptually superior to most of the Star Trek:TNG Movies and all but the most exceptional Stark Trek: TNG episodes. Plus, John de Lancie's performance is brilliant!!

Audible and Simon & Schuster had the opportunity to provide a truly delicious story that's already in audio formant. Instead what's provided is the equivalent of a waiter bringing you someone else's half-eaten entree in the hope you will not notice.

    "Abridged version is terrible"

I used to have a audio cassette of the unabridged version and it was outstanding. This abridged version is terribly disappointing.

"Garbage Don't waste your money on this program"

This "audible" program is confusing and the Q Squared download is WRONG. It starts off in the middle of the recording (story). I thought I was downloading a simple audio recording to Windows Media player to burn to CD or IPod for listening. Instead it's on some website that I have to enter passwords on my computer just to listen. I'm getting this off my computer.
(If you can find a good and accurate copy of the audio book for simple Windows Media MP3 and CD download, then you're good to go, because it is a good star trek story)

I couldn't listen to this audiobook because the the sound quality was terrible (downloaded in format 4). I'll just have to buy the paperback.

    "Great Short Story"
What made the experience of listening to Star Trek, The Next Generation the most enjoyable?

John de Lancie is engaging as he reads this fascinating exploration into the Q continuum. He provides more than Q's whimsical charm demonstrating his ability to build dramatic tension, touching character moments, as well as suspense throughout the book. While this is only a short story, Peter David offers a compelling Next Generation tale that finds links to Original Trek through the fan favourite character Trelane. Dealing with alternate realities is difficult enough, but David goes further and offers multiple alternate realities collapsing into one. David demonstrates a deep knowledge of the Star Trek universe writing characters and events that are faithful to the television series. This is a great addition to the Star Trek universe.

    "Pretty Good!"

I like this one quite a bit. There were a couple of spots I found hard to follow. This might have been because of the abridged nature of the story but I could figure it out easily enough.

"The Adaptation really hurts this one"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I wouldn't, simply because the adaptation from the original book is not done well.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Q. Q is the reason I bought this originally in Hardback, it's why I bought this audiobook. Q rules!

What about John de Lancie’s performance did you like?

Everything really. His whole performance was perfectly done and surprisingly his portrayal as Trelane was my favourite part of this. He was able to show a manic insanity in the character that I'd always had in my head when reading this one.

Could you see Star Trek, The Next Generation: Q-Squared (Adapted) being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

No, the simple reason being it is too far removed now from the continuity of the series. I could see it being redone for a new and complete audiobook with the whole cast of TNG, I'd love to hear Stewart, Dorn, Spiner, Frakes, McFadden, Sirtis and Burton giving life to the different versions of their characters in this one.

    Any additional comments?

Too much was cut in the adaptation, background information about the series that a Trekkie would love to hear, the reason why a Q in the continuum would not be named Q and be called Trelane, the resolving of many character aspects that were left hanging without a real conclusion. If you're a Trekkie and have always wanted to see Q face off against Trelane then buy the book, you'll enjoy the interplay far more as the character are fully fleshed out and is one of the better portrayals of TNG put to paper.
