Are you willing to settle for an ordinary life? Or do you think you were meant for something better? Something special?"
One grew up in the cornfields of Iowa, fighting for his independence, for a way out of a life that promised only indifference, aimlessness and obscurity. "You will forever be a child of two worlds, capable of choosing your own destiny. The only question you face is, which path will you chose?"
The other grew up on the jagged cliffs of the harsh Vulcan desert, fighting for acceptance, for a way to reconcile the logic he was taught with the emotions he felt.
In the far reaches of the galaxy, a machine of war bursts into existence in a place and time it was never meant to be. On a mission of retribution for the destruction of his planet, its half-mad captain seeks the death of every intelligent being, and the annihilation of every civilized world.
Kirk and Spock, two completely different and unyielding personalities, must find a way to lead the only crew, aboard the only ship, that can stop him.
"The wait is over."

No but did enjoy it once
Tie in how Captain Pike became injured and the loyalty toward him. Can be enjoyed without knowing original Star Trek series.
So So as accent for Scottie got in the way a little.
No but I do not ever sit and read or listen to a book for much more than an hour.
An avid bookworm who loves everything from memoirs to massive epics.
Zachary Quinto does a marvelous job capturing the voices of all the different characters in the story. I was completely drawn in. This is definitely a book I will listen to again.
I absolutely loved his performance, especially his pacing and impersonations.
I am a huge Star Trek fan, so the story was an automatic 5 stars for me. But Zachary Quinto's outstanding narration made this audiobook a whole new experience for this long-time fan. He has a wonderful voice, but his ability to distinguish characters and convey their emotional conflicts is better than most of the books to which I listen. Even his female voices are believable, without the screechiness that comes from some male narrators. I knew I would love the story when I purchased it, but the audio experience from Zachary gave me a new appreciation for the characters I love. THANKS, Zachary!!! (and I hope you will do more audiobook narrations in the future!)
Serving God For His Glory!
The added detail to the story that the movie left out. It fills in some gaps and helps you to better understand the movie.
James T. Kirk, he is a man of action.
Not good to imitate a female (Sorry, 6 words)
Star Trek on steroids.
Zachary Quinto does a good job with male characters, but not with female characters.
This is the best it's modern it's fresh and Zachary does a fantastic job with the narration. If your a Star Trek fan this is a must have, enjoy
Men's Minister - Hardcore Christian Men
I truly enjoyed this book...almost as much as the movie. I recommend this to any fan who wants to get a little Trek during thier drive!
Absolutely! This is one of my favorite books ever. I love the idea of looking at Star Trek from the beginning, when the Enterprise crew could have first met. Quinto's narration is exciting and emotional, two things that are not always present in Star Trek of the past.
The part of this book that stands out the most to me involves Spock and his relationship with his mother and the emotion that Quinto gives to the scene when Spock's mother dies.
I laughed over and over with things Kirk, in his cocky attitude, says to others, from the bar to the academy, and also with the way Bones responds to others. Best Star Trek yet.
Absolutely! If you enjoyed the movie than your pleasure will be doubled by this novelization! Plus, Quinto reading? I'd listen to this guy read the phone book! His voice is amazing as Spock and I was impressed with the range of inflections/voices with other characters
Additional information and dialogue and scenes the movie did not provide
This is his first right? If there are more I certainly want them. I hope Audible reads these reviews because when they do a reboot 2 book or make novels out of some of the reboot graphic novels, I hope they will ask him to be the narrator again.

Live Long and Prosper my fellow Trekkies!
I am constantly on the road and a voracious reader, so audiobooks are a must!
I am a huge Trekkie. I loved the shows, loved most of the movies, and have read and loved quite a few of the books. The movie this book was based on is excellent, in my opinion, and as the author had a chance to actually SEE the movie before he wrote the novelization, I expected a better book than this. It's not that it's a bad book, it's that I expected...more from it. For all intents and purposes, it's the movie in book form. There are a few differences here and there, and some contradictions and repetitions in the text itself, but there is no deeper delving. We learn nothing of Nero's 25-year imprisonment on the Klingon prison planet; we learn nothing of the Romulans other than what is shown in the movie; we basically learn nothing we didn't already know by watching the movie. On the other hand, Zachary Quinto's narration is quite good and the production itself is also quite good. I just wish the book offered more.
seeing the words play out on the movie screen in my mind
each moment as it went along. each scene compiled on the last.
the scene where Spock turned the little ship around & made a death-run for the monstrous Romulin ship.
his rendition of Scotty was superb. he did all the characters very well.
really enjoyed the book. will probably listen to it again & again!
