poorest choice of narrator EVER!

What did you like best about Star Trek: Into Darkness? What did you like least?

I only got through about 30% of the book because Alice Eve was a horrible, horrible narrator. Forget the fact that she has a strong British accent - all of her characters sound the same!

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Coulnd't get there ...

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I couldn't picture the characters because of Alice Eve's amateurish and horrible narration.

Do you think Star Trek: Into Darkness needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Actually, this book needs to be redone with a new narrator - why not Zachary Quinto from the first book?

Any additional comments?

Decent actress, bad narrator.

Where does Star Trek: Into Darkness rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It ranks up near the top, maybe in the top five for me.

What other book might you compare Star Trek: Into Darkness to and why?

I would compare it to other Star Trek books; it's a good story.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Alice Eve?

Chris Pine, John Cho, Karl Urban. Jonathan Quinto.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Damnit, I'm an actress, not a narrator!

Any additional comments?

The story is a good one. I really enjoyed Jonathan Quinto's narration of the first audio book. I enjoyed the movie also.

I said turn around!

I loved both the reboot and its sequel on film and bought them. I loved them both as audiobooks and again, bought them. Alice Eve is a talented actress and a beautiful woman. I do like her accent in film. Maybe i will see what other films she is in or even what other audiobooks she has narrated ( WITH FEMALE CHARACTERS). Here, not so much. When speaking for Khan, i kept thinking of the wicked witch of the west "I 'll get you my pretty, and your little starship, too!"

Good Story, Bad Narration

What did you like best about Star Trek: Into Darkness? What did you like least?

This was the worst narration I've heard so far. She was dispassionate during exciting or emotional scenes, her voices for most of everyone sound really different from their character. It was like she had never seen or heard anything of Star Trek and just read this out loud on her first reading of this book.

What did you like best about this story?

Once I was able to get past the narration, I really liked how it linked the twelve and second Star Trek movies really well.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I nearly quit listening to this book multiple times due to how terrible I found her to be. So the narrator detracted heavily from my enjoyment of it.

Do you think Star Trek: Into Darkness needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I think that it needs to be done again with a better narrator.

Any additional comments?

If you have a hard time separating voice from what you are listening to, don't buy this!
I will never get another book with this narrator.

Good

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book as a readable book not a listening one. Was very disappointed in the narrator. It is a book with male characters not females.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Alice Eve?

any male narrator would be better.

Did Star Trek: Into Darkness inspire you to do anything?

no

female Brit narrator? what gives?

the narrator is not the worst I've ever heard but she makes absolutely no sense narrating a story where the two main characters are male. It grated. Also she speaks in what I think Brits call a posh accent EXCEPT for dialog which is all done with American accents, other than for Scotty, of course. Huh? To quote Spock, "Highly illogical." Brit pronunciations of common words detract from story comprehension for this American. There are occasional missing words.

Foster has written Star Trek episode and movie novelizations for something like 40 or 50 years. Great writing. Loved movie. Slogged through listening just because it cost me a credit and I liked movie.

Dynamic story, but subpar narrator.

This is a good book, worth a credit, but it could have been better. The narrator from the first Star Trek movie tie-in was great, but then they switched over to this woman. It was not a good move. She has a small, mousy British voice, which really doesn't work for a story with mostly strong, masculine characters. She struggled to differentiate the different characters, and had issues pausing at the right time. The story would say "Kirk shouted..." and she would whisper the next line. Also, when there was action taking place in two different settings, she wouldn't pause effectively to differentiate the plot lines, so I found myself rewinding a lot after figuring out that the scene had shifted without any pause or cue from the narrator. It seemed as if she just read it out loud in one take, straight through, without any kind of notes. She also had an annoying habit of trailing off at the end of every sentence. She's just a bad voice actor. I guess the fault lies with the director or producer of the audio book as well.

Despite that, I still enjoyed the book. It's based on the movie script, so it has the feel of an abridged book, where the action moves quickly, but they still managed to put more character development and detail than was present in the film version.

Great Book, Poor Narration, but worth it

I know I'm repeating everyone in bashing the narrator but it was worth listening to, could they get someone better, absolutely... but the story is worth just about any narrator

I'm not a huge star trek fan but I did like any of the ones that involved one particular character... granted I'm confused about a few things because I know its a prequel & Spock can talk with Spock but what about everyone else? I know someone whose familiar with Trek knows how to explain all this but that was the only part that had me scratching my head?! Anyone has a suggestion send me an message of a book I can read or something data920@yahoo.com

The book is well worth the poor narration, & its only poor because the main characters involved are all men & she does an ok version of 1 or 2 maybe but with that many male characters, why not get a male to read it? The book makes me want to read more about the villian involved & the back & forth between Spock & Kirk was not as entertaining as the 1st book/movie prequel... I always enjoy an authors idea of how alien races deal with humans & how they're personalities clash, this was only present in a small amount because the whole book pretty much is all action from beginning to end.

HIghly recommend the book regardless of narrator, the actual book would be better probably
