Critic reviews

"To solve his own demise, Stiles must travel between the two realities, each abounding with the expected confusions and unexpected plot twists for which Anthony is famous. An artful blending of SF and fantasy clichés and situations, Split Infinity shows Piers Anthony at the top of his ingenious game(s)." (Amazon.com review)

Been eons since I read this, so fun to revisit.

Any additional comments?

Came upon the series in the Ancient Days when it was a mere three books, and followed it through to the end. So now snagging the Audible titles as my monthly credits roll out - three down, four to go. A good chance to revisit an old series and use up those pesky credits!

Wonderful

This has got to be my favorite series ever! Absolutely loved reading the books and the audio narration was superb. Definitely going on to book 2.

Solid story that didn’t age well

I enjoyed this series when I was 14, found some of it cringeworthy today despite clear attempts at thinking and treating people differently than the times would have. The actual plot is fun, innovative and moves at a good pace. Still worth a the listen imho.

Excellent production of an excellent book!

I read this book decades ago, and was thrilled to see it was available on Audible. The narrator does a great job with the story, conveying emotion, rather than simply reading.

Even better the second time.

I first read this book as a young man, actually several in this series as they were released.
chapter black I had totally forgot about and there are things I remember that apparently are in the next book. all the hopes and dreams of youth came flooding back as I listened to this book.

Good but dated

An amazing book, just that it's writings cadence is off a bit. Still worth it.

Good story beneath all the sexual obsessiveness

Would you try another book from Piers Anthony and/or Traber Burns?

Perhaps - if I could avoid all the smarmy sexual references.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

If someone abridged all of Piers Anthony's stories to remove the endless titillation and descriptions of female figures, I would enjoy his books. This stuff is like teasers for virgins, which is too bad, because the actual story concepts are very interesting. I wish I could recommend his books to my kids, but the never ending fascination with breasts is just ridiculous.

Have you listened to any of Traber Burns’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Traber is not the right voice for these books. His voice is too mature and in books written from the perspective of a horny 15 year old boy, an older man's voice makes everything a bit creepier.

Was Split Infinity worth the listening time?

Not really - I would rather have read the book so I could have skipped over the drivel parts. Audio books are torture when parts of the book are great and others are teeth-grinding because you can't really skim through.

Any additional comments?

I wish I could handle the full series but I don't think I can. And I don't have time to sit and read the real books.
