Publisher's summary

In the aftermath of his terrible war, Ender Wiggin disappeared, and a powerful voice arose: the Speaker for the Dead, who told the true story of the Bugger War. Now, long years later, a second alien race has been discovered by Portuguese colonists on the planet Lusitania. But again the aliens' ways are strange and frightening...again, humans die. And it is only the Speaker for the Dead, who is also Ender Wiggin the Xenocide, who has the courage to confront the mystery...and the truth. Orson Scott Card infuses this tale with intellect by casting his characters in social, religious, and cultural contexts.

This, the author's definitive edition of the sequel to Ender's Game, also includes an original postscript written and recorded by the author himself, Orson Scott Card!.

mind boggling

I enjoyed this book. It was entertaining and also surprising. There was a lot of unexpected twists and turns. It really made me think about the implications of interplanetary travel and the potential development of humans when we have to take into account the integration with species or other lifeforms that are not in any way compatible with what we consider the human race.

Another Home Run for the Enderverse!

Orson Scott Card is a fantastic author! I have read Ender's Game and the complete parallel series of Bean. I think so far that Speaker for the Dead might be my favorite. The storyline is fantastic and the audio performance was quite enjoyable. I can't wait for my next credit to be available so I can read the next book!!

Well written & highly entertaining

It was hard to put this book down. It has great mystery, understanding, insight, and truth. A clean story, an easy read. I was surprised to find out it was written in the 80's!! Something culturally GOOD spawned in the 80's. Bravo 👍

Gripping and insightful, a perfect piece.

I couldn't imagine how a story could be better than Ender's game. Now I weep for those who read Ender's game and did not continue to read Speaker for the Dead. This book teases philosophical discovery of the reasons why we care about others and how we interact with people we dont know. Again, as in Ender's game, the audiobook version is hampered down by one female narrator. I will leave it to you to determine who. otherwise a perfect production.

Awesome story.

The frequent changes between readers was distracting. It even feet cumbersome, especially at first. different readers were responsible for telling parts of the story that seem to be from a particular character's perspective, but in the omnipotent third person, it didn't always make sense. Once the context was clear, the confusion cleared up as well.
