Publisher's summary

Only once in a great while does a writer come along who defies comparison - a writer so original he redefines the way we look at the world. Neal Stephenson is such a writer and Snow Crash is such a novel, weaving virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility to bring us the gigathriller of the information age.

In reality, Hiro Protagonist delivers pizza for Uncle Enzo's CosaNostra Pizza Inc., but in the Metaverse he's a warrior prince. Plunging headlong into the enigma of a new computer virus that's striking down hackers everywhere, he races along the neon-lit streets on a search-and-destroy mission for the shadowy virtual villain threatening to bring about Infocalypse. Snow Crash is a mind-altering romp through a future America so bizarre, so outrageous...you'll recognize it immediately.

Incredible Story

This had me hooked from start to finish. 100% recommend.

My only issue was the recording and parts of the performance. There is one part in particular that just skips what i’m assuming is a few sentences. Maybe an app issue, i tried going back and playing it over in hopes that it was a bug but the skip persisted.

Parts of the performance are patched up with re-reads that have a drastically different sound quality.

These issues shouldn’t deter you from grabbing this one. Just the reason why it doesn’t get 5 stars on performance.

A somewhat difficult listen

I've read Snowcrash before but I found this time it was difficult to follow the story. The author is obviously quite intelligent and has a lot of interesting historical information to add but listening to it was almost overwhelming. The middle of the story gets bogged down with an earful of information regarding languages and religion which is both interesting but somewhat frustrating to listen to ( at least in my experience). The transitions between chapters I also found quite distracting and unnecessary. For some reason the quality of sound was also quite poor which has not been my experience with other books from Audible ( I would imagine it's an older recording).

Pretty good!

That foreign voice in-between chapters got annoying! other than that the reader was amazing! Great book!

thought provoking cyberpunk!

Loved this story for it's detail and it's amazingly cool characters. If you love cyberpunk, swordfighting, mafia movies and hacking, then this is one of the most badass books you can get. The autor seems to be a highly intelligent individual.

Not bad

This book was pretty good. I listen to a lot of of audiobooks while working, so I tend to favor light reads since I can still keep up with them if I miss some parts here and there. I wouldn't call this a hard read, but if you're not paying attention you do fall behind, I felt like I missed a lot of plot points because of this; Which is probably why I feel like this book was a lot more interesting at the beginning then the end. To make a long story short, this may not be the best book to listen to while you're doing other activities, it needs your attention. With that said, it's good, the plot lends itself to people who are technology minded, so if you're into programming or techy geeky stuff, then you'll probably like this book.

so so...

Let me start by saying I felt that Jonathan Davis did a great job of narration, but with that being said, i felt that he had a weak story and characters to work with. i felt the story was a little bit disjointed and jumped around awkwardly. The characters didn't seem very well developed. And a 15 year old girl screwing a much older man?? Umm, that seems a little wrong. Also, the transitions from chapter to chapter were very anmoying to me and i dont understand the decision to use them. They really pulled me out of the story.
