Publisher's summary

Only once in a great while does a writer come along who defies comparison - a writer so original he redefines the way we look at the world. Neal Stephenson is such a writer and Snow Crash is such a novel, weaving virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility to bring us the gigathriller of the information age.

In reality, Hiro Protagonist delivers pizza for Uncle Enzo's CosaNostra Pizza Inc., but in the Metaverse he's a warrior prince. Plunging headlong into the enigma of a new computer virus that's striking down hackers everywhere, he races along the neon-lit streets on a search-and-destroy mission for the shadowy virtual villain threatening to bring about Infocalypse. Snow Crash is a mind-altering romp through a future America so bizarre, so outrageous...you'll recognize it immediately.

Great listen

Very interesting story line and technological concepts that hold together for a book published in 1992.

Facinating read, especially the world setting

Fantastic read, Neal Stephenson always manages to build such complex and dynamic worlds you can't help but get engrossed in the story.

slow start, strong finish

great story, but the world building does take some time in the beginning. Still, huge payoff, highly recommended, its a great book.

Was a great geek book... love modern technology spun into a good story. I'm now a Stephenson addict.

Good story but ...

I know this is a classic, but I feel like the newer AR and VR stories are better thought out. Overall, pretty good story - kept me entertained.

Starts weird, only gets better

Let me just say this first don't think of any of the names of the different organizations as what they are called, think of them as militant organizations. I would call this story more of a crime mystery story that has instances that take place within the virtual world they called the metaverse, not really of the genre of litRPGs. That being said, as someone who was looking for a litRPG book this did not fail to interests and enthrall me. The concepts presented about religion and the way we absorb information along with the impact of language on the developing brain make for an incredibly interesting exploration of theories. Everything in the story seems to be very well grounded in historical fact and scientific reasoning nothing in it seems too terribly impossible given Neal Stephenson's explanations. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it really introduce my mind to a host of new ideas I never would have thought of if I had not picked this book up.

apocryphal cyberpunk novel

I've read necromancer and people recommended smote crash as "just as good".
I would agree with that, or go further. this will probably be the definitive cyberpunk novel in my mind. great work!

Stephenson really is a creative genius.

If you could sum up Snow Crash in three words, what would they be?

Thought-provoking, creative, fun

What did you like best about this story?

A good mix of mystery and SF.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A wild ride in a small boat fighting pernicious enemy.
