Publisher's summary

The inspiration for the MAX original series DUNE: PROPHECY, coming Fall 2024!

It is 83 years after the last thinking machines were destroyed in the Battle of Corrin, after Faykan Butler took the name of Corrino and established himself as the first Emperor of a new Imperium.

The war hero Vorian Atreides has turned his back on politics and Salusa Secundus. The descendants of the disgraced Abulurd Harkonnen have sworn vengeance against Vor, blaming him for the downfall of their noble family.

Raquella Berto-Anirul has formed the Bene Gesserit School and, through a terrible ordeal, has become the first Reverend Mother.

The descendants of Aurelius Venport and Norma Cenva use mutated, spice-saturated Navigators who fly precursors of Heighliners.

And Gilbertus Albans, ward of the hated thinking machine Erasmus, is teaching humans to become Mentats…while hiding an unbelievable secret.

Led by the fanatic Manford Torondo, the Butlerian movement, fiercely opposed to all forms of "dangerous technology," sweeps across the known universe in mobs, millions strong, destroying everything in its path.

Featured Article: Dune (2021)—Book vs. Movie

The very first book to win the Nebula Award, Frank Herbert's Dune has long been a fixture of the sci-fi world. It's no surprise, then, that yet another filmmaker has taken a stab at bringing this classic to the screen. The latest effort, by Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve, captures the first half of the epic novel. The reviews have been generally positive, with critics and audiences blown away by the scale and sheer ambition of the adaptation. Overall, Villeneuve's 2021 adaptation of Herbert's sci-fi classic is quite faithful. But in what small ways does the film differ from the book?

Different yet Fantastic

Would you consider the audio edition of Sisterhood of Dune to be better than the print version?

I enjoyed both the print and audio version, I like Scott Brick as a narrator he does a fantastic job. This is a fantastic audio book.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice is pleasant, he enunciates everything very well. He brings characters to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have listening to it in all one sitting. It's long, I listened for very long periods.

Any additional comments?

This is only the second of the newer DUNE novels I have read. They are of course very different from Frank Herbert's books. The original Dune novels were fantastic literature and great science fiction. They required more thought and concentration, they were written on a different level. This generation of DUNE novels are still great science fiction. The stories are fantastic. They are simpler and more straight forward but great in their own right.

Really good start for the Sisters!!

If this were real. I could see the varying groups of morons popping up. Just like politics, but deadlier.

fabulous

Frank Herbert would be proud. I personally loved it. The legend of the houses and the legacy of the navigators are forming nicely.

This is the First Need to Listen for 2012

I love the continuation with the Dune series by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Yes, it is not Frank Herbert, but it is as close as you are going to get, and it is Wonderful.

The authors have done a great job telling the back story, although for me, I had already read what is called the Legends of Dune series, which includes the Butlerian Jihad, the Machine Crusade and Dune:the Battle of Corrin. You don't need to read these books to enjoy this book, but I enjoy the series and it is impossible for me view this with fresh eyes, the back story is told very well, so you don't need to read the other books.

Although I read an ARC of the book I could not wait to get the audiobook so I can hear Scott Brick add his voice to this book. For me he is the voice of the Dune series.

It is a great telling of the background of Bene Gesserit School and how the Mentats developed.

For me it closed the loop on a lot of things just mentioned in the original Dune series.

Awesome but ending was a bit lacking.

Awesome but ending was a bit lacking. I will definitely look forward to the next book in the series.

Another monumental tome to the Dune lore.

I loved this, as I love anything to do with the Dune Saga. Absolutely brilliant.

A solid read

This is welcome return to good writing after the lower quality of Battle of Corrin. Many of the characters and storylines that were left loose at the end of the Butlerian Jihad trilogy continue on in this book. This book feels much more about politics, much like the original Dune. This is a worthwhile read, but only after first reading the Butlerian Jihad trilogy.

As always, the performance of Scott Brick is a solid and interesting read, giving just enough voice acting for each character to know exactly who is speaking.

Great!

a great story that satisfies that Dune itch...although this book is not entirely about the Sisterhood. Enjoyed this book and Scott Brick is an amazing reader!

Book 4 Butlerian Jihad series

Read: "The Butlerian Jihad, The Machine Crusade, The Battle of Corrin" . first and you should love this one almost as much. It Starts 90Years or so after "The Battle of Corrin"
I did not re-read them before i read this one and i picked up all the plot lines pretty fast, but it couldn't hurt to re-read or listen to the 3 books at take place prior to "Sisterhood of Dune". However id also Suggest to anyone new to the dune universe to read at least the original "Dune" before reading any of the new ones.
