The homicide beat in Louisiana isn't just terrifying, it's demonic. Detective Kara Gilligan of the supernatural task force has the ability to summon demons to her aid, but she herself is pledged to serve a demonic lord. And now, people who've hurt Kara in the past are dropping dead for no apparent reason.
To clear her name and save both the demon and human worlds, she's in a race against the clock and in a battle for her life that just may take her to hell and back.

This is the fourth book in the series, but only the second put on audible. I've only listened to Secrets of the Demon in this series, and I liked this book better than Secrets. I really enjoyed this book, especially how demons were used to attempt to solve the crime. I also liked that I was able to predict before hand who was actually at fault for the murders. Overall, if you want to listen to a good mystery or urban fantasy this is a good choice. I would recommend this book to friends.
I have read the previous 3 books on my ereader and really enjoyed them. I'm so glad to see these on audible... But keep adding please! I see there's another book in the series that isn't here, plus another coming in December '13.
I recommend starting at the beginning of this series with mark of the Demon to get the full perspective. The demons aren't your typical demons, but rather being from another place that can be summoned into this world. They are ruled by Demon Lords that may also be summoned.
Start at the beginning... And Audible, please add the next title!

I was at the edge of my seat most of the time and laughing the other times.
The part where Kara was saying goodbye to her guardian! I wanted to cry.
I love the way she voices the different characters and the feelings is just like if I was listening to a movie..
I read this one first because it was cheaper and I wanted to know what it was about. I am glad that they can be read out of order. BUT,,, know I am hooked and plan on getting them all especially book 5 since this book left me hang'n... I am desperate to find out how she gets out of the Demon realm.
I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.
This series is still going strong and getting better! This one leaves you begging for more. So off I go to the next one. I have no credits so I'm buying it. That's how much I like it and I don't want to wait for my credit.
Another good listen. In my way to get the next one.
Just have to find out what happens next.

yes, I would recommend the series starting from book 1. you could definitely start with a later book in the series and figure out what is going on because the author gives a brief recap. However, if you do this there will definitely be something lacking in the story and your feel for where the characters have "come from" and you won't be as invested in their relationships. it is worth it. Kara's character is growing, the mystery is good, there is action, and they are fun.
The first %75 was just filler that didn't do anything to progress the story or the series. It was such a shame as the other books were magic. The last quarter or less was really good and what I had been waiting for but just a bit to late to impress me.
Audible does not return me to where I left off. Often I would pause the book, and when I returned 5 - 10 mins later the book would have skipped several chapters.
the story was enjoyable and so very much the way it was narrated, a truly great series of books.
Kim Harrison has written some great books, so has John Ringo, also Chris Fieldwater, he has some awesome new books, one was mind blowing and enjoyable in so many ways, but then thats my personnel tastes.
Her voice and the professional way she can narrate the story.
I have no single moment in this single book but many from the series.
Please Diana write many more books.
