Critically acclaimed author Charles Stross has mastered numerous genres, including Lovecraftian horror, fantasy, and alternate history, claiming such prizes as the Locus and Sidewise Awards. His breathtaking science fiction has earned him a Hugo Award and several additional Hugo nominations, including one for Singularity Sky.

In the 21st century, the perfection of faster-than-light travel and the rise of a prodigious artificial intelligence known as the Eschaton altered the course of humankind. New civilizations were founded across the vastness of space. Now, the technology-eschewing world known as the New Republic is besieged by an alien information plague. Earth quickly sends a battle fleet - but is it coming to the rescue, or is a sinister plot in motion?

Even George Guidall couldn't make it interesting

I used to think that any story read by Guidall was worth a listen, but this one proves me wrong. I tried to like it, I really did, but I gave up after a few hours - it just couldn't keep my interest. Can't really say why.

Couldn't finish it

I'm a fan of Charles Stross Laundry Files books so I was looking forward to this one, but the narrator is kinda boring to listen to.

boring and lame

This novel really never went anywhere and though very descriptive I now wish I downloaded the abridged version. It just seemed to wander and then there was no payoff at the end.

Interesting remise, boring execution, preachy ending, flat characters

The back story the book is built upon is neat. However, actual text is hard to get through. The characters are simplistic one sided characatures provided a thinly beied and simplistic social commentary. The plot unfolds slowly, spoils surprise twists early, and is lacking in all tension. Even the space battle at the end is just boring since by then you know what the outcome will be and nothing beyond the overbearing foreshadowing happens.

I really wanted to like the book, but I wish I had just read a spoiler heavy summary instead.

The narration was quite good for the audio book.

Very imaginative, but a little too much so

I believe the author has more imagination that Alice in wonderland. The book was interesting but I cannot rate it highly.

I was not able to appreciate the book 0o any level

Not saying it's bad work, but I just couldn't find the handle. There was simply no common ground between myself and Mr. Stross.
