It’s Christmas again at St Mary's and time for Max’s obligatory illegal jump. On this occasion, however, they’re right up against it.A loaded gun has been left behind in Ancient Egypt, and it’s up to them to retrieve it before anyone accidentally blows their own head off, thus affecting the timeline for centuries to come.
And as if that’s not enough, someone (Max) has inadvertently poisoned Mr Markham. It’s hot, they’re running out of supplies, they can’t find the gun and it’s all going horribly wrong. Again.

I very rarely give short stories 5 stars but this one was absolutely perfect for what it was-- a small snippet of life at St. Mary's. Hilarious as usual. A great way to get me even more excited for the release of the next book in a few days. And it was free which makes it even better! A wonderful way for fans of the series to spend 1+ hours. (This is not meant for people who have not read any of this series yet. Don't start with this short story. Start with book 1. You won't be sorry.)
This is a cute short story narrated by Zara Ramm. She is a really wonderful narrator and could listen to her all day! The story is typical St. Mary's craziness. Glad the series isn't over yet!!
I am a US Army Social Worker with too many interests in life and not nearly enough time.
if you love St Mary's then you should bookmark this story and listen to it every Christmas. Wonderful as always....Narrated Beautifully
Perhaps, but not in Audible form.
I listen to audible books while doing chores or sewing. In this book, the narration was in such a strong British idiom, and the speaking voice so rapid, that it was extremely difficult to follow the story. I really don't know if the story is well written or has a good plot. I didn't even realize that the characters were speaking of "time travel" until the 30 minute mark. I feel that I am only getting about 50% of the story. Ms Ramm's voice is pleasant, but most difficult to understand. If she spoke a little slower, it might help in understanding the British accent.
Always looking for a great series/author to follow.
The third book in the series that I've read and although it is a free short story it is by far the best. Just plain fun! The plot is cohesive, the writing is decisive and it's free... you can't get any better than that. Thank you for this very pleasant Christmas gift 😄
The ongoing Jodi Taylor and Zara Ramm partnership continues, better with each story. The time-traveling denizens of St Mary's never fail to delight.
I wasn't necessarily drawn back to the story and aching to listen more, but yet I really enjoyed it. I think that I didn't really have time to get to know the characters and appreciate the crisis in the short time it took to tell the story. It always takes a while to really care about the outcome in a given story. But, this story had a fascinating premise and made me want to read larger works about St Mary's and the historians working there. I really think you'll enjoy it as well.
"loved this book"
I have only just found this author and love her writing. I have become addicted to her books now and this is my favourite one so far.
"Always something to look forward too"
Love that Jodi gives us a festive treat 😀 may St Mary's continue for many years to come. ( whilst awaiting the next book I'm going back to the beginning).
Great books. Enjoy
"Another enjoyable slice of St Mary's chaos"
Short but very well written - and well narrated. Loved it! I can't wait for the next instalment, which will hopefully be full length.
I just love the St Mary's books and this one was just as good as the previous ones. They really cheer you up when you're feeling down.
"As always, thoroughly enjoyable"
I have loved every Jodi Taylor so far and this one was no exception. The reading was really good as well.
"I wanted it to carry on!!"
I love the series and the fact that Jodie gives her .5 books out for free is extremely generous.
I have read this book out of sequence so there were some major spoilers in it and to be honest I was a bit baffled by the time line but it wasn't a major issue. The story itself was full of the usual fun, frolics, angst and mayhem.
A thoroughly good listen and expertly read by Zara Ramm.
As always this is a good listen. The story is easy to follow
It is full of the people that are in the rest of the books and it is good to hear how they manage to get from one problem to the next and nearly alaways come out in one peice.
I have goy nearly all Jodi Taylor's St Marys books and it is good to have the same voice to listen to.
As always this book made me laugh. There are some moments in the other books that bring a tear to my eye but not this time
Have just discovered Jodi Taylor and her Chronicles of St Mary's - started off with the short stories and can't wait to read more of these. Not my usual choice of book but thoroughly enjoyable and I'm very glad I tried them. A fun fast paced story with good narration.
"Thanks Jodi for this great free book"
You will enjoy this book even more if you already know and love the characters in the St Mary's series - Do yourself a favour and download these books. You won't regret it. They are moving, often funny, sometimes sweet, sometimes gory and I usually learn a bit of history into the bargain.
Zara Ramm is also the perfect choice for narrating these stories.
"Clever Marketing and a nice introduction"
A free book is always nice to have though it could be something the listener does not like. This was not the case as I thoroughly enjoyed the book and it will have the side effect that I shall be buying more of the same series
