A Good Fight

Short crisp sentences were a perfect fit for a military story. A balanced look at military life. The author changed points of view a few times and I found it a little confusing. Not much character growth. A few unanswered questions.

Great World Building

I read this after DM ANDREW announced he would be running a Dungeons & Dragons campaign set in Elizabeth Moon’s wonderful world.

I cannot understand why this series does not receive more wide acclaim. I truly love it and recommend it highly to everyone interested in Fantasy.

Good book

I really liked the beginning of the book and how Paks was trying to learn how to be a warrior and her growth to becoming a veteran warrior for a Duke. however I felt that the ending and the last sets of chapters were slow and dribbled off and got boring...I felt that she should've had one last grand adventure to give her a sight into her own destiny and that she was meant to be a Girdsman or Paladin. something that showed Magic is real in this world or God's are real...but the next book hopefully is much better

Really Enjoyed!

Really enjoyed this audiobook, top to bottom. Story was good, simple, and refreshing and the narrator's performance was engaging and interesting, with a wealth of depth and flourish that kept it from ever growing tedious. All-around, very pleased. Will definitely continue the series.

my favorite series!

This has been my favorite series for as long as I can remember. My father used to read it to me when I was a little girl as it was his favorite as well. I've literally read the original trilogy over a hundred times, and now in my mid-30's, I still cry at the same parts, laugh at the same parts, and cheer Paks on. I was nervous to try the audiobook, but the magic was still in there. The narrator was okay, but had a very different reading style. For the most part it was fine but some of how she stressed phrases in the dialogue annoyed me at times. I still highly recommend it!

a lot of unfulfilled potential

their is a lot of promise in this book.
the main line of the story, and the characters are very interesting.
unfortunately too much of the book is about details of combats, which getting boring very fast.
i would not try another book of this series.

Great story

I reread this trilogy every couple years or so and have listened to the audiobooks several times as well. Every time, I get sucked into the storyline. Would definitely recommend

This has become a favorite

This book has become like comfort food to my husband and I. It never disappoints. The naive and assuming goodness of oaks just makes life seem sweet.

One of the best fantasy series, greatly done here

It's one of my all-time favourite stories. Truly captivating, unlike so many stories, no one is safe. It is not a fairy tale. The character development on a character that could be taken is so detailed that you never expect they could be gone. The hardships endured make you so much more connected. Narration is well done, not perfect, but still recommended.
