Publisher's summary

Ender's Shadow explores the stars in this all-new novel...

At the end of Shadow of the Giant, Bean flees to the stars with three of his children—the three who share the engineered genes that gave him both hyper-intelligence and a short, cruel physical life. The time dilation granted by the speed of their travel gives Earth's scientists generations to seek a cure, to no avail. In time, they are forgotten—a fading ansible signal speaking of events lost to Earth's history. But the Delphikis are about to make a discovery that will let them save themselves, and perhaps all of humanity in days to come.

For there in space before them lies a derelict Formic colony ship. Aboard it, they will find both death and wonders—the life support that is failing on their own ship, room to grow, and labs in which to explore their own genetic anomaly and the mysterious disease that killed the ship's colony.

Shadows in Flight is the fifth novel in Orson Scott Card's Shadow Series.

Bean's growth and understanding

Loved the book! Journeying through the cosmos with three brilliant children would definitely be challenging. I can't wait for the final book in the series, The Last Shadow. Stay healthy and take time out of your busy schedules to read or listen to your favorite stories.

Refreshing

Sometimes the books get a bit repetitive and wordy but always stay entertaining. This one was much more different and refreshing. I'm always interested in hearing the author's thought at the end of the book even when it's something sad or something I disagree with.

Great book but the characters are not consistent

This was as always a great book from Orson Scott Card I just had one problem with it For all of the previous books been talks about how he wants his species to die with him. But this book is all about how he’s planning to have them set up a colony and reproduce. So I feel like there’s a lack of consistency with the rest of the series

A fitting farewell

Well, the end of this book had me in tears, and the afterword by the author kept the tears flowing. Must be the stage of life I find myself in at the moment, but I completely understand the sentiments about the importance of the relationships we have along the way that bring meaning to our lives.

I am in the process of re-reading the Ender series, one I discovered long ago, but lost track of along the way. Nostalgia aside, it is a fascinating, memorable and highly recommended series. Dig in!

Connects the Ender and Bean storylines

Some of the reviews indicate that this novel was awful but I respectively disagree. While it wasn't as good as Ender's Game or Ender's Shadow, it was a lot better than some of the other books in the series. This novel draws a connection between the Ender and Bean storyliness. It might be confusing if you haven't read those books.

I enjoyed the novel. It was quite short, so it wasn't a huge investment of time like some of the others. However, I was left wandering about the new characters and would be interested in reading more about them.

The narration was great. Each character had a unique narrator. My favourite was Scott Brick as Bean.

Too short...(no pun intended)

Really enjoyable story and character development, however, It was too short. The author was going for a short novel format in this story (he says so in the epilogue). Part of me feels like I am being greedy. I wanted more since it was so good and it leaves too many questions The other part of me feels that this story could have been one of the greatest novels in both the Ender and Bean series if it continued to develop more of the story.

Ending

It left me with closure about Bean, but it ended very abruptly. The story was developing around the children really well, but then BAM over.
