Publisher's summary

Ender's Shadow explores the stars in this all-new novel...

At the end of Shadow of the Giant, Bean flees to the stars with three of his children—the three who share the engineered genes that gave him both hyper-intelligence and a short, cruel physical life. The time dilation granted by the speed of their travel gives Earth's scientists generations to seek a cure, to no avail. In time, they are forgotten—a fading ansible signal speaking of events lost to Earth's history. But the Delphikis are about to make a discovery that will let them save themselves, and perhaps all of humanity in days to come.

For there in space before them lies a derelict Formic colony ship. Aboard it, they will find both death and wonders—the life support that is failing on their own ship, room to grow, and labs in which to explore their own genetic anomaly and the mysterious disease that killed the ship's colony.

Shadows in Flight is the fifth novel in Orson Scott Card's Shadow Series.

An emotional relatable ride

The family bickering between siblings and parent are at a newer level of enjoyment. A must listen for Bean fans.

Very good, just short

That’s all. This book was very good, but it was short and left me wanting more.

Bittersweet

Spoilers to follow: It’s been a great pleasure to read and listen to the story of Bean, who, within the first book of enders game, was such an intriguing character, and has grown to become my favorite character in the series.

This was a beautiful book and forever more I am appreciative of having been able to experience the life and times of that little, and then huge soldier by the name of Bean.🧡

Book #9

I began to feel the theory of diminishing marginal returns with this book. But, then I looked it up. This is #9 in the series of ~ 13 book series that began with Ender's Game.

This one is the story of Bean, one of the kids from battle school, all grown up. No spoilers, here.

I liked the book a lot more when I reflected upon it's meaning. Where is #10

It's not Ender, but it is good

So, I first I thought Scott Card had run out of characters, Bean's kids seem to be Ender, Peter and Valentina all over again, but in the end they developed personalities of their own and then it was interesting.

Other than that, it is good to know what happened to Bean, because we love Bean, right? And like all Scott Card books this one is very worth reading.

Enjoy!

a real "page turner"!!!

Orson did Julian "Bean" justice with this peice. it really ties in his kids to the story, but adds some scientific explanation to the formica, and explains better what communication is like, though it doesn't stay consistent with the language of coice in the mind the formic queen uses with Ender Wiggin. Rather it describes the transfer of information as a transfer of emotions and images. perhaps the tie together novel will better explain this and maybe they will figure it out. love this series.

Note to Orson Scott Card: you better get that stroke thing figured out. we can't have you dying before finishing your universe the way JRR Tolkien died before finishing his middle earth lore

Old Friends

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Listening this book was like coming home to old friends. I love the narration, the continuation of the story and even was deeply saddened at one point. The only complaint...too short.
