Publisher's summary

Ender's Game told the story of the boy "Ender" Wiggin and his hard-won victory over an alien race that would have destroyed the Earth and all of humanity. But Ender was not the only child in the Battle School. He was just the best of the best. In Ender's Shadow, Orson Scott Card told the story of another of those precocious generals, the one they called Bean - the one who became Ender's right hand, his strategist, and his friend.

And now Card continues Bean's story, and finally tells a tale long awaited by millions of fans. At last we learn what happened on Earth after the destruction of the Hive Queen's worlds, after humanity no longer had a single enemy to unify the warring nations. This is the story of how Bean turned away from his first friend, Ender, and became the tactical genius who won the Earth for Ender's brother, Peter, who became the Hegemon.

Great novel but poor audio

The audio is pretty poor. They’ve spliced in corrections, individual words and sentences, to the existing audio. It doesn’t match in tone at all and disrupts the flow.

Recording Mistakes make for a poor listen

Every time they say the word "hegemon" it poorly cuts to an audio splice of a different voice. It's very distracting

Awesome book, sloppy performance - needs a do-over

I've listened to this about 5 times (yeah, I love the whole Bean story and visit it whenever I can). Each time, I swear I'll write a review and complain about the sloppy, sloppy performance. This is it. First, the book is read by several people, which is great because it relieves some of the monotony. However ... "The office of THE HEGEMON was now powerless." Why the caps? Because that part of the sentence was spoken by A DIFFERENT FRIGGIN' PERSON!! Instead of asking each narrator to re-read the sentence, they had one person say THE HEGEMON and then dubbed it in throughout the book. You jump every time and lose the story for a few seconds. Totally frustrating. Secondly, Card clearly explains in Chapter 2 that Achilles is pronounced "a-sheel" and yet several of the narrators (not all) pronounce it "a-kill-ees." It's irritating to hear a character say "a-sheel" in one chapter and "a-kill-ees" in the next because the narrator changed. This was produced by Stefan Rudnicki. Come on, Stefan! Have some pride in your work and fix it!

Excellent

Wow! Scott Card does it again! I don’t know how he keeps it up but I can’t wait to read the next one! Wonderful story line, intriguing and, for some, familiar characters, and told in a intriguing manner by the voice actors. Overall, I can not recommend this book, nay, the author, enough!!

please fix the audio..

the near constant quick corrections to the text are very noticeable and distracting at times... understood that the pronunciation of Achilles and Hegemon must have changed but it's distracting to the listener to hear it go back and forth.

Great Story, Terrible Production

I love the Enders books, this one is no exception; however, the production was terrible and took away from the story. Too much music for one thing, and every so often you get a word or phrase dubbed in by a completely different voice... such a terrific book deserves a much better presentation. Glad it cost me a credit instead of 35 bucks.

Good story; bad edits

Loved the story, but it really needs to be re-recorded. The audio edits where jarring enough to pull me out of the story.

heading

Constant voiceover and dialog change distracts from the narrative. not worth fixing "heggemon" in my opinion.
