At first I was not sure how I felt about the story at times it was repetitive and predictable. I stuck with it and now I am looking forward to hearing the next book. It ended at a place where I was so into the storyline that it left me wanting to know what happens next and to me that makes for a good book. At first I thought the book was good against evel but that is not the whole of it. It's also about trust and love and what you would sacrific for it. I did like the fact that the story was not filled with a lot of descriptive sex scenes. I liked both narrators and how they brought a good first person perspective to the storyline, please keep them.
Remind me again, where did I leave my ipod?
I'm not sure how I feel about this book. It's written in first person in alternating chapters from the perspective of the main two characters. The heroine is a young woman who seems to have plenty of time on her hands, though she's an up and coming photographer. She lives in an apartment next door to her best friend from college, and the two go out to clubs together. It's at a club late one night that she literally runs into a guy that she's strangely attracted to, but the attraction is unsettling. It's a big mystery who the guy is, and then there's another mysterious guy. Bad stuff happens. People close to her die. She's told she has a destiny that she denies, of course, while running around putting herself in danger.
It's pretty tame and somewhat predictable stuff. Kind of soporific, actually, though it weaves a spell. I listened right to the end to find out what was going on. Not sure I'd continue this one, probably not. Maybe if it's cheap I'll buy the next one on Audible for when I can't sleep.
The story line is unique and interesting. And I am in love with the narrative team. Great chemistry, truly sizzles in a tasteful manner. I hope the other books in the series are adapted to the audio format with the Gabriel Vaughn team. I've listenned to it several times with great enjoyment.
sorry can't think of any suitable comparisons right now.
I have several favorite scenes:
When Holden and Olivia first meet. When Holden comes to Olivia's showing. When Holden and Quentis meet for the first time. And of course when Holden and Olivia become one.
Very enjoyable story. Very enjoyable narration. Hard to wait for the next book to come out on Audible. Though I have read the trilogy I look forward to hearing the narrations provided they use the same narrators.
This was a really good book. It had a unique story line and the characters were good. The best part is it was a romance but didn't have all the gratuitous sex in it that so many do. The female narrator was not good at all. Flat and robotic much of the time. The male narrator was great. It did have several F bombs which weren't needed, but for $2.00 you it was well worth it.
now if they would release the other books....I don't want to be forced to actually SIT AND READ a book. I can't do that. ..not enough time
Probably. Not sure. It was unusual. The book was a mystery with little information but, you keep listening. The characters and dialog work somehow. This was my most confused review.
I didn't like it. But I plan on buying the next book, so go figure.
I liked hers better but he was good too. They are convincing.
Well the book ends on a cliffhanger. If I knew that I might not have bought it. I like a satisfying or real end, even if it is a series.
This one was hard to rate. I liked it but didn't love it. I will buy the next book to get to the ending......
For the majority of the novel, the story is told twice - from two different perspectives. Rather than being enlightening, it is totally annoying! Usually, a story written in this style allows the reader to see the thoughts, dreams, worries, of each character. Instead, we are left completely in the dark as to the motivations of the characters. So instead of sounding heroic, the leading lady just sounds stupid.3/4 of the way in, we are finally allowed to know the secret that drives these two, but that becomes a sort of deus ex machina (spoiler alert, assuming you like the book enough for it to be spoiled). In the end the woman who was so certain she should love the guy she loves in unable to make a decision - really??? The character development is irritatingly inconsistent with human nature! The narrators were fine, but they agreed to work on this project, so I only gave them 2 stars. Sooo, if you are capable of making even semi rational decisions on a regular basis, don't bother with this one.
I really liked this book- enough to call audible and request the next two books--Choices and Consequences. There is a second trilogy about these characters called the Jinn trilogy. I thought the evil/good relationship of two people interesting and I am interested enough to listen to the rest of Holden and Olivia's story. A Guardian/Jinn couple should prove to be entertaining. I love the narrators, and I hope they continue the series. If you like this, request the next books!!!
