Publisher's summary

Surviving the attack proved to be more than they could have imagined….

Months after a super-EMP attack devastated the United States, the country is now unrecognizable. Major cities are run by gangs, survivors are dying of starvation and the government is falling victim to lawlessness. Those who were prepared for the end find that they weren't really prepared at all.

While some seek vengeance for their losses, others are determined to restore the nation. Gordon, Samantha, Sebastian, Barone, Connor and Pablo are all on different paths, but they are all in search of a home away from chaos. They are all in search of a sanctuary.

Good story, new narrator.

The new narrator threw me off. His reading works great for some characters, but after the last two books I have a hard time with the Marine officers having a less commanding voice. Still a great book.

Can there be too many characters?

The saga continues as we follow all the sub-plots introduced in previous volumes. Gordon hunts for his son’s murderer. He crosses paths with Colonel Barone, to whom he owes a debt and must delay the hunt in order to repay the debt. Colonel Barone is dealing with a finicky population in Coos Bay while trying to settle his small army, err… Marines in their new home. The government, or what’s left of it, is totally dazed and confused. President Connor has returned from MIA status, now its Vice-President Cruz turn to go missing. Meanwhile back at the ranch, Samantha has her hands full with an angry Hailey after her brother is killed and her father disappears to hunt for the killer. Nelson also has his hands full care-taking Samantha and Hailey while Gordon is gone. There is much going on for sure. Oh yes, we also have Pablo of cartel fame with his purchased Army and enormous ego invading California. I think we could have left him out of the story altogether, but such is the imagination of G. Michael Hopf. Good story if a bit complex. Can there be too many characters? Well, I look forward to some closure somewhere.

Feels like a filler

Do not like the narrator. All voices have his gravel voice. Story drags in areas. Hope next book is better.

Great Series --- Disagree About The Reader

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This whole series has been recommended to friends - I travel frequently and almost hate to get out of the truck. I have listened to several similar story line books (EMP Burst) and found this to be really well done. Lots of action and really puts a perspective on how fast the world as we know it can collapse.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sanctuary?

No Spoilers out of me

What does Keith Szarabjka bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I strongly agree with others that the reader SHOULD NOT be changed during any book series. With that said, I do disagree with the reviews that put down this reader , I thought Keith did a really good job and enjoy when a reader changes tones and accents for the different individuals.

Any additional comments?

Although the reader changed mid-series the story did not so don't let that be an issue. Within the first few mins. it was a non-issue for me. Looking forward to starting the next book tomorrow.

Grabs you right from the start

Sanctuary is the third book in The New World Series. This series has such a strong plot, with subplots that both support and enhance the story. It drew me in right from the beginning. The strong, well though out and described characters add to it and gives us a connection with them, making us feel like we know them. There’s never a dull moment with this blend of post-apocalyptic conditions, desperate people trying to survive while a power struggle and underhanded tactics are used, although unknown to some, which may determine the fate of the US.

why?????

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Keith Szarabjka?

when are they going to learn to stick with the same narrator for a series ? does anyone listen to all the customers suggestions ???
