Publisher's Summary

The battle for Echo Hold begins, the Uyumaak throwing their might at the fortress. The birth of the Holy Child draws near, and the Chalaine and Padra Athan try to prop up the Ha'Ulrich's failing courage so he can face Mikkik when the time comes. Gen, still separated from the Chalaine, watches from a distance, fearing treachery, hoping he can save her from Mikkik and the incompetence of her cowardly husband.

But when Mikkik finally arrives, the tormented god foists the biggest deception ever seen upon the unsuspecting peoples of Ki'hal. Only Gen and a few of his allies know the truth. The fate of Ki'hal rests upon their shoulders as Mikkik unleashes his fell creations to hunt them down and silence the living heart of the world.

"Great novel broken into Multiple books for Bigger profits?? You be judge!"

I really liked the story but in the end it seems blatantly dragged out in order to sell multiple books, this sadly seems to be happening more and more these days and frankly it is not only annoying but seriously Hurts the overall story because waiting for the next book usually leaves me trying to catch up with where the story left off and remembering characters names and situations and such isn't always easy. It's sad because if this was a single book I know I would have LOVED it but broken up like this for bigger profits in my opinion destroys the flow of the story especially one with so many important characters and plots.. That's just my take on what I fee is obvious ploy to squeeze more profits out of every story.. And it's negative effect on the Worlds the writing is trying to transport us to! You be the judge!

    "Painfully Dragged Out"
Would you try another book from Brian K. Fuller and/or Simon Vance?

Simon Vance made the experience tolerable. All done with Brian Fuller

What was most disappointing about Brian K. Fuller’s story?

No story or character continuity. the base story wandered without purpose. this book (series) needed an outline and a plan

    "Great series."

But the 4th book could have been better.

There are four books in “The Trysmoon Saga” series. They are one long story. Be prepared to read them all. The four books in order are Ascension, Duty, Hunted, Sacrifice.

5 stars for Ascension. Exciting wonderful journey following Gen an orphan. The evil local magistrate bullies and harms Gen and others. Warlord Khairn comes to town killing many. Khairn forces Gen to learn to fight. There are magical creatures and healers in this world. It reminds me of Lord of the Rings with a little Harry Potter.

4 stars for books 2 and 3, Duty and Hunted. Still very good as they continue Gen’s story.

3 ½ stars - maybe 4 stars for the last book Sacrifice. There were sooo many battles and journeys. The main characters fight, flee and survive one obstacle, then an emergency happens and they are fighting something else. I was getting a little weary of battle after battle. But the overall story and how it ended was worthwhile. The evil god Mikkik was close to destroying all the good in the world. The epilogue was fun and very feel good.

    AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR:
Simon Vance is excellent. And he does females well.

    Narrative mode: 3rd person.
    Genre: fantasy.

"The final chapters nearly ruined a good series"

Superbly narrrated. I gobbled up the previous three books in this series, despite some complaints and minor quibbles, but somehow the author bungled book 4 of 4 — at least, in the final five chapters. He fumbled the ball in the fourth quarter. It's really a shame, because this series is otherwise compelling. The epilogue, especially, is a sad fizzle. I wanted it to include my favorite characters from the series, including the Mirrim Eri elves. Instead, we get some random strangers filling up the last chapter????

Having said that, I loved several scenes in this book, including those featuring Maewen, Volney and/ or Gerand. Some of the battle scenes are excellent. Loved Gen versus Hecka Dron (sp?). And Gen and Cadaen to the rescue at Echo Hall. Loved Gerand and Maewen battling together in the city. Interesting turn of events in the Shattered Sky chapter.

My biggest problem is with characterization detours and plot contrivances. Characters we've grown to know do things that are out of character for them, especially in the final quarter. For one example, they unexpectedly and unbelievably demonstrate sheer stupidity (towards the end of the book, why would Gen — always so wise and fiercely protective — trust such a personal and vital task to those two murderous traitors?

A few characters appeared to vacillate between totally, murderously, egregiously evil versus not-so-bad-after-all (Torbrand Shadan Khairn, the priestly Mage Athan). Across the series I grew to loathe Padra Athan, so I wanted Fuller to sock it to him hard. He got off too easy. I wanted to like Torbrand, but knowing what he'd done in book 1, how could I accept the character twist? Fuller seems to shape this character at will and whimsy.

Plus, there is the ongoing problem with the love triangle. That went on too long and traversed a winding path, with too many loop-de-loops for my taste. I mentioned it in my review of a previous book, but here it just got crazy. It smacks of problems with plot development and character development.

I'd go three stars for the story itself, but for the bizarre epilogue. It felt like a different book. Endings can sometimes make or break books, and this one broke it. Why did I need to hear about these random, annoying strangers? Bummer.

There are many characters and places in this series, with weird spellings. Easy to forget. Need a wiki page or glossary.

    "Enjoyable, exciting, suspenseful, and satisfying."

I have totally enjoyed the entire series Drew Miann and wrapped me up with the characters I think about them from time to time throughout the day when I'm not reading which I think is funny I normally don't do that. I was looking for a little bit more fulfillment at the end but I still liked the ending.
I would recommend this series to those who love science-fiction fantasy and deeply principled stories with love, integrity, warriors, villains, heroines, good against evil and extremely develop characters

Brian K. Fuller never fails to deliver, and thank heaven for Simon Vance. It's because of Mr. Vance that I listened to Mr. Fuller in the first place, and glad I did. Hoping there will be a 5th book??

    "Entertaining Fantasy Read"
What did you like best about Sacrifice? What did you like least?

For me, the story was engaging, and the plot moved the story along nicely. The romance of the novel was a bit ridiculous to me. Gen has literally every single major woman of this book fall in love with him. They're all beautiful, and looking for someone to lean on. It's hard to distinguish him from the character from the beginning-they seem like completely different people.

"Is it better to have loved and lost"

Over and over and over? I mean, how many times can this guy get over losing "the love of his life?"

And, the speed at which he recovers from such devastating losses, and finds a replacement is absurd.

I REALLY enjoyed the first two books. The third was ok.

This one was a huge disappointment. I feel like the author gave up.

    "enjoyable series"

It was good to find a series that was complete before I started to listen as It gave continuity. I hope to find others as good for future listening .The hero was easy to like and care for and if the ending was not exactly the one I hoped for it was the most logical.

"Not bad, better than a lot of whats out there!"
    Any additional comments?

Taking all four books together, its not bad at all, its not a patch on the 1st law, or Demon Cycle, but its better than a lot thats out there. Only issue is the fact it is split into four books, is it really worth four credits? No! if this was one book, even two then I would have been much happier, as it is, its a bit off a rip off!

Would you ever listen to anything by Brian K. Fuller again?

    No

Did Simon Vance do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Yes Simon vance was ok in this.

Was Sacrifice worth the listening time?

    Nope

    Any additional comments?

The four books start off ok but they, quickly get super corney, Gen the main character is a Mary Sue of epic proportions, It makes it really hard to have any empathy or connection to the main character.

One of the best stories (four books) I've had the pleasure of listen to this year.
I'm now left with the unenviable task of trying to find a book that will live up to this one :)
