Car mechanic Mercy Thompson has always known there was something different about her, and not just the way she can make a VW engine sit up and beg. Mercy is a shapeshifter, a talent she inherited from her long-gone father. She's never known any others of her kind. Until now.

An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River - one that her father's people may know something about. And to have any hope of surviving, Mercy and her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will need their help....

Have Mercy! Listen to another Mercy Thompson chiller.

Critic reviews

"An outstanding urban fantasy novel with some well-loved and well-traveled characters...The way [Briggs] writes about all of the different fictional supernatural creatures is fascinating and keeps you on your toes.” (Examiner.com)

Wonderful

After book 5 I had thought Patricia Briggs had lost direction with her Mercy character. I am very pleased with River Marked it brings us back to what made me fall in love with this series to begin with. A full cast of the characters we know and love yet continuing the story line in a way thats not repetitive. A wonderful book on its own and a great addition to the series. Lorelei King does a very good job narrating a must listen.

Love it

It was just too short for me I wanted more!! But as a story I suppose just the right amount of length. It was wonderful to see Mercy and Adam together and away from the pack. I can see their bond has grown strong and steady as ever and that they know each other really really well. After reading so many descriptions of Adam's gorgeousness, I'm starting to wonder who does he look like LOL (any suggestions?)

A bit of spoiler alert

Compared to the other books, this book is definately written for the fans of the book. I mean the wedding, getting Stephan out of the gutter, finding out about Mercy's mom and sisters and of course her DAD! There were so many tidbits that were so enjoyable for the fans.

THe greatness of the series is that Mercy and Adam are supernatural and tough but not invincible. There are consequenses to everything that they do. This book is no exception. Not only for the injuries but also how the "monster" was killed. I like how the walking stick was taken care of the end. I wonder if it will stick with the Coyote or come back to Mercy like all the other times.

I now eagerly await for another book.

PS I hope Stephan finds some sort of happiness soon.

A great short story, but not enough for a novel.

If you want to know what married life is like for Mercy and Adam, River Marked definitely has you covered. Patricia Briggs' latest effort kicks off with a shot gun wedding. We follow Adam and Mercy for a majority of their honeymoon, which was for the most part was uneventful. When the story does pick up, Mercy will take on a journey to discover her heritage and meet her father along the way. A reconnection to her past and ancestry will help her to battle an ancient evil.

While we get some great insights into the evolving relationship between Adam and Mercy, and I love seeing them work through their emerging problems, and how the alpha persona and wolf pack complicates things. Their relationship takes on a new richness, but the overall book seems disjointed. One part is this great in depth look at our love birds then there is the actual story. I felt like the story was tacked on, and not really developed fully. The book was a typical 336 pages but the real story line didn't seem to start until halfway into the book. The beginning started with Stefan and his human stable, and you would think that the storyline is going to follow along those lines then that resolves rather easily and we move on to family issues, nuptials, and the honeymoon. Sometime after we settle into marital bliss and after a few bread crumbs here there that hint at the bigger picture to develop, we actual get into plot. But it seemed very short. I think if Briggs had integrated the plot earlier in the story it would've blended into the usual standard we have come to have expected. Even the little bits introduced during the start of the honeymoon were too little and too far between. Though I loved the stuff with Jess and Mercy's family, and wedding I think the overall story should have been threaded within or in between the stuff with Stefan, and her wedding.

Overall River Marked has some great background on our favorite were-coyote couple. The actual story is good, just a little to short seeming, better integration from the start of the book would have the whole thing gel better and read like one book instead of two stories. The background on Mercy's father was great too. This is a must read for Mercy fans.

Not my favorite of the series

This was actually my least favorite of the Mercy books. I was so looking forward to it too. It took a long time for the story to build to any action, and then it was just over. I missed the interaction of the main characters with the rest of the pack, and the wedding was over before it even began. The chemistry between Mercy and Adam didn't seem to be there as much. I actually just wanted it to be over and hope the next is much much better. :(

Another great Mercy book!

I really enjoyed this book, as I have all the other Mercy books. It had a great blend of romance and action, though I would like it if PB made her books a bit more steamy. I really liked that Mercy learned more about her heritage and found more shapeshifters. I liked that Adam played a large part in the story. The narrator does an excellent job of both men and women's voices.

Awesome

I was very excited to find that in River Marked we get to see a more romantic side of Mercy as she and Adam take their relationship to a whole new level. While River Marked is a bit different from the previous books in that there is more romance which I loved. There is still gritty violence and some intense action and Mercy is still the star of the show. This series continues to be a favorite and Lorelei King an amazing narrator.

One more in a very good series

This story includes many previous characters, but adds quite a few new ones, and I hope we get to see at least some of them again. The story has moved in a new direction, adding depth to the story and the characters. I especially enjoyed the humor - there seems to be more of that this time. I'm really looking forward to book 7! This series is one that I have listened to several times, and I plan to continue to replay. Ms. Briggs writes a very good story, and Ms. King brings it to life.

Fun and quick!

Mercy is such a fantastic character. Trouble follows her everywhere including her honeymoon. While Mercy and Adam are camping, we finally learn a little more about Mercy???s father and what it really means to be a Walker. This is a short listen and the story has a nice pace to it. Lorelei King is back and wonderful.

A Very Nice follow-up book.

This is a very nice follow-up book in this saga. It is about time we see a little more about her Native American powers and magic.
