The last remnants of an ancient advanced race, the Clan of the Seven Stars, are returning at long last to their lost homeworld, Midkemia—not as friends, but as would-be conquerors. Only by escaping to Midkemia and brutally overtaking the war-weary world can the last remnants of a mighty civilization hope to survive.

Story
If there were two more impetuous and carefree men in the Kingdom of the Isles, they had yet to be found. Twins Borric and Erland wore that mantle proudly, much to the chagrin of their father, Prince Arutha of Krondor. But their blissful youth has come to an end. Their uncle, the king, has produced no male children. Bypassing himself, Arutha names Borric, the eldest twin by seconds, the royal heir. As his brother, Erland will have his own great responsibilities to shoulder.

Publisher's summary
Ruthless and arrogant, the taredhel intend to let nothing stand in their way; but before long, Pug and the Conclave realise that it's not necessarily the elves, but the demon horde pursuing them where the true danger lies. And hanging over Pug always is the prophecy that he will be doomed to watch everyone he loves die before him...

Disappointing
This book is very disappointing. I am a long term fan of Raymond Feist's books and I have read all the books he has ever written, many of them multiple times. Unfortunately, I think he has finally run out of ideas and he is now recycling old ones unashamedly. There is nothing new in this book, and every section leaves you with a feeling of de ja vous. Far too much time is spent on scene setting, and there is far too little action. The characters are not particularly engaging and I felt myself on the verge of giving up listening multiple times. To make things worse, the narrator is quite unsuitable. His performance oozes pomposity, and I felt that the accents he uses for different characters often felt quite inappropriate. I bought this book as soon as it became available, with a great feeling of excitement - but I won't be so trusting in future.

Good book, average narration.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book itself, but the narrator's voices for the characters were inconsistent and unconvincing. At some points, it became difficult to tell who the narrator was trying to vocalize, the voices were often that similar and interchangeable. Also annoying was the narrators tendency to have the characters *sigh* constantly.
In all, I'd recommend reading this book instead of listening to it - its a good story, but unfortunately the narrator isn't quite up to scratch this time. Four stars for the book, Two for the narration.

FANTASTIC!!!
I will be honest, this was the first Raymond E. Feist book I have read (Listened to) and then went onto At the Gates of Darkness, I absolutly loved the two books, with Peter Joyce narrating them made it just as good too. I am so hungry for more, WHY is there none Raymond E Feist's other books on this site? I WANT MORE lol I highly recomend this book and book 2 'At the Gates of Darkness'
