Publisher's summary

Davy has always been alone. He believes that he's the only person in the world who can teleport. But what if he isn't?

A mysterious group of people has taken Davy captive. They don't want to hire him, and they don't have any hope of appealing to him to help them. What they want is to own him. They want to use his abilities for their own purposes, whether Davy agrees to it or not. And so they set about brainwashing him and conditioning him. They have even found a way to keep a teleport captive.

But there's one thing that they don't know. No one knows it, not even Davy. And it might save his life....

Critic reviews

"Though Gould continues to exuberantly press the boundaries of scientific credibility, his gift for placing ordinary people in extraordinary situations against a backdrop of international concerns makes this fast-paced adventure sizzle." ( Publishers Weekly)
"This is a fun, fast-paced novel that - like Gould's other books - also has a social conscience that gives it more depth than such a story might have in lesser hands." (Charles de Lint, The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction)

Very good sequel

Very good sequel. Narrator is excellent but the recording was a little noisy at times. I’ll probably read the next in the series.

A propulsive narrative

Great story telling with villains, danger, suspense, and teleportation. The “science” of the teleportation was unconvincing but the author did a great job achieving plausibility with the medical stuff. For those who enjoyed “Jumper,” this is a worthy sequel. My only quibble was with the narrator: I often had trouble figuring out which character was speaking, especially with female characters, because the narrator didn’t distinguish well between them.

Really good

Really good! Especially for a sequel, especially for a sequel written ten years after the first!

Reheated

I knew that “Reflex” was a follow-up to “Jumper”, and I have liked sequels before; Shrek 2, Halloween III and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But I was surprised that this was better than the original. The book is filled with suspense and the villains are smart, evil and resourceful. And, since this is part of the “Jumper” series, the book is centered around teleportation.

"Reflex" is a better story than "Jumper", but not a new story. Let's call it a 4.4 star.

Good Sequel

I like it...a good Sequel...Long in the middle....opens up a possibilty...Some of the actions of Davey was more controlled than most people would do.

Another great run!

I'm loving this series. Full of great characters and fun yet extraordinary adventures. I wish there were a lot more Gould books out there!

A decent followup to Jumper with a bland narration

Reflex is a decent book in itself. Mostly what I did not enjoy about this book however was the narration, which felt largely monotone. The voice the narrator uses for each character is just a very subtle change. In this sense, it feels more like someone is just reading the book out loud as opposed to putting on a performance.

Jump into this!

Really enjoyed Jumper, but I didn’t realize how slow it was to build until I listened to this book. This one hits the ground running and grips you from the beginning. You won’t be able to “flinch” away once this book gets ahold of you. Best in the series. I just finished the third book“impulse” which is also a good read, however this one has so far been the best in my opinion.
