Publisher's summary

When Lister got drunk, he really got drunk!

After celebrating his birthday with a Monopoly-board pub crawl around London, he came to in a burger bar on one of Saturns moons, wearing a lady's pink crimplene hat and a pair of yellow fishing waders, with no money and a passport in the name of "Emily Berkenstein".

Joining the Space Corps seemed a good idea. Red Dwarf, a clapped out spaceship, was bound for Earth. It never made it, leaving Lister as the last remaining member of the human race, three million light years from Earth, with only a dead man, a senile computer, and a highly evolved cat for company.

They begin their journey home. On the way, they'll break the light barrier. They'll meet Einstein, Archimedes, God, and Norman Wisdom...and discover an alternative plane of reality.

Arnie comes through with the voices

Arnold Rimmer performs a full cast rendition solo. Exceptional voice acting true to tone for every character. HEAR the amazing Rimmer AS: The Cat, Lister, Chriton, and miscellaneous dudes and dudets. Well worth a listen for true fans and the Dwarf curious. Smegging awesome .

Getting to Know Dave Lister a Little Bit Better

What did you love best about Red Dwarf?

I love the back story of Lister going to a Birthday Party and getting so drunk that he ends up on another planet without a way to get back to earth quickly. He is forced to go on Red Dwarf as crew and learns it will take him years on the mining ship to get back to earth. The audio book was way more detailed than the series on why and how Dave joined the Dwarf.

What did you like best about this story?

Dave's romance with Christine was explained in more detail and how depressed he was after there relationship was broken off by Christine.

Which character – as performed by Chris Barrie – was your favorite?

Chris Barrie did and excellent job on all the character voices. He got most of them dead on, especially Lister's.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Rimmer is self analyzing is own character and motivations behind all his actions. He comes to realize he is one messed up individual that now one likes.

Any additional comments?

Great story, great performance, Wish they had more on the series.

A Delight for New and Old Fans Alike

So... You've watched all the episodes and know everything about (wags hands) the boys from the Red Dwarf? I thought so too. Same basic idea, big new adventure.

Chris Barrie is the best!

Wow! I knew he could do some of the casts voices from the show but he really can do them all! I was hit with tears of joy when I knew I was about to hear him do a new characters voice for the first time and was subsequently blown away when he did better then I expected! This book fills in some gaps that the show leaves out, like the cat city and other things I won't mention due to spoilers. I've watched the show four times in six months in it's entirety and now can't wait to start it again and look for more Easter eggs. I'll be getting the next book right now after this review is over. The only thing I don't like is that I have to give this five out of five "normal" stars rather then five red dwarf stars for each category. If you asked Kryton while his morality chip is removed whether or not this is worth your time, he'd probably say "Youu bet your ass!"

Better then Chicken Vindaloo - Loved It

I like the story, especially the prequel. Better than the 1990’s sequel, “Better Than Life.”

One of the whackiest

What did you love best about Red Dwarf?

I liked the idea that the book itself and how it was presented was done in such an off the beaten path fashion. I've skimmed over some of the contents of other people that made reviews over this particular book, and from what I can see it was something else before this. Though offhandedly I cannot recall... but that is irrellevant from a review isn't it?

The best aspect if I had to narrow it into a singular aspect, would be the characters and how they come into the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Red Dwarf?

Dear, this is a tough one to pose to a casual listener, I want to answer something but at the same time not give anything away to anyone that bothers to read these.

There is a certain point in the back-end of this that becomes quite interesting, and to narrow this aspect for people that will eventually be first-time listeners and would like to focus upon my favorite point should pay close attention to the Cat.

What about Chris Barrie’s performance did you like?

Well done to the man for bringing life into the characters as someone who takes up the mantle of such a job should want to do.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The book is not something I would call moving, in an emotional or mental aspect, at least not deeply enough to a level that I would classify it as such. However it is enjoyable, and I'm very glad that I used my audible-gift on something that was at such a low price. Or I'd never have discovered something as amusing as this was.
