Publisher's summary

A New York Times best seller!

They burned her home.

They stole her brother and sister.

But vengeance is following.

Shy South hoped to bury her bloody past and ride away smiling, but she'll have to sharpen up some bad old ways to get her family back, and she's not a woman to flinch from what needs doing. She sets off in pursuit with only a pair of oxen and her cowardly old step father Lamb for company. But it turns out Lamb's buried a bloody past of his own. And out in the lawless Far Country the past never stays buried.

Their journey will take them across the barren plains to a frontier town gripped by gold fever, through feud, duel and massacre, high into the unmapped mountains to a reckoning with the Ghosts. Even worse, it will force them into an alliance with Nicomo Cosca, infamous soldier of fortune, and his feckless lawyer Temple, two men no one should ever have to trust....

Red Country takes place in the same world as the First Law trilogy, Best Served Cold, and The Heroes. This novel also represents the return of Logen Ninefingers, one of Abercrombie's most beloved characters.

phenomenal story with the best narrator around.

Great story as is and a great story if you've read other books by Abercrombie.

Great Characters and action

I loved the flawed characters and love the fact that characters from the other books in this book. Seeing the characters aged, as we all do, and what they have gained through their life experience. Some have grown, like Lamb/9 Fingers, in their prospect about themselves and life. Nicomo Cosca, he only becomes worse. But I love Nicomi. He provides great humour with his comments on life and reactions.
I like the way Joe Abercrombie writes his characters as they make the story and build the interest in the story . The characters give the colour to the story line. The more real the character the more interesting the story for me.
I totally enjoy Steven Pacey's narration. I am glad the latest Joe Abercrombie's books are being narrated by Pacey.

You gotta be realistic!

Joe Abercrombie's books get better and better. The characters are fabulously well developed, the story is entertaining, and the writing style is absolutely marvelous. One of the most appealing features is that he constantly blurs (or annihilates) the line between the good guys and the bad guys, which is arguably one of the themes of his work. This series has become literally my favorite ever. Hands-down ever.

True Grit

Abercrombie crushes it again. I love his writing style. He nails gritty complex characters.

If you read the First Law series (which I recommend you do), some old friends are back. I won't say who. Read First Law first if you haven't already.

He writes in a style very much like GRR Martin which is high praise. Characters are complex and conflicted. The choices are difficult and the results are frequently less than satisfying but oh so entertaining.

This book reminded me a lot of the Clint Eastwood movie, "Unforgiven" which, if you haven't seen it, is also fantastic.

Another excellent story by Joe Abercrombie!

If you love grimdark or gritty fantasy give this book a read. You will not be disappointed. Multidimensional characters, intriguing plot and a very thin line between Heroes and Villains.

Amazing!

Absolutely amazing story and voice acting. This is my 4th Joe Abercrombie and Steven Pacey book and I can't wait to experience the next one. What will I do when I've reached the end of all the books... Start over and enjoy them all again I guess!!!

More First Law excellence

Joe Abercrombie has really created something special with the First Law. I've never enjoyed another series as much. Hope one day he'll write another.

Masterful

Masterfully written and performed by Abercrombie and Pacey. The humor and irony abound, but they are used adeptly. The audio book is as lovely to hear as the test is to read.
