A world at stake. A quest for the ultimate prize. Are you ready?

In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days.

When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Then Wade cracks the first clue. Suddenly he’s beset by rivals who’ll kill to take this prize. The race is on—and the only way to survive is to win.

Critic reviews

2017, Laura Hillenbrand Outstanding Literary Award, Winner

“The science-fiction writer John Scalzi has aptly referred to Ready Player One as a ‘nerdgasm’ [and] there can be no better one-word description of this ardent fantasy artifact about fantasy culture. . . . But Mr. Cline is able to incorporate his favorite toys and games into a perfectly accessible narrative.” (Janet Maslin, The New York Times)

“This non-gamer loved every page of Ready Player One.” (Charlaine Harris, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse series)

Great book!!

What did you love best about Ready Player One?

It was unique from what I've read before and totally immersed you in the story.

What did you like best about this story?

I think it could be complicated and difficult to convey the time frames and environments that were necessary in this story but the author did a perfect job in making it easy to follow and know exactly where and when the characters are.

Have you listened to any of Wil Wheaton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first listen to Wil Wheaton, I enjoyed it.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

What if virtual reality could change the real world... but at a real cost.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book and recommend it.

a sign of the times

If there is ever a book that can encapsulate the era of the dawn of computers with the era of its peak immersion, its this one. A great for adults and children all wrapped into one.

one of my absolute favorite books of all time, great for older readers who want some awsome references or younger readers alike just for the great story. The narrator did an amazing job changing voices and adding emphasis in key moments. Overall awesome experience, would recomend to anyone.

great ya book

I think if i were into gaming it would be far more exciting, but it held my attention. I wasn't really expecting to like it. now I'm excited for the movie. I did space out during some of the gaming sections, but the narration brought me back.
