How hard do you have to shake the family tree to find the truth about the past?
Fifteen-year-old Rae Kerrigan never really knew her family's history. Her mother and father died when she was young and it is only when she accepts a scholarship to the prestigious Guilder Boarding School in England that a mysterious family secret is revealed.
Will the sins of the father be the sins of the daughter?
As Rae struggles with new friends, a new school and a star-struck forbidden love, she must also face the ultimate challenge: receive a tattoo on her 16th birthday with specific powers that may bind her to an unspeakable darkness. It's up to Rae to undo the dark evil in her family's past and have a ray of hope for her future.

The story seemed to unique and was told well
The descriptive ability of the author
The reader really shouldn't have tried to use an accent other than her natural one. I loved her natural voice, but her accents were awful. Sorry. It was destracting.
The sorry Rae experienced over not having her mother any longer.
Yes, It's an interesting book!
Definitely Rae, Strong and stubborn but don't like to tihnk.
Sarah Ann Masse’s other performance was a bit slow when she read Julian and other not leading characters. That was the reason for a 4 and not 5 star rating
Rabid Listener/Reader and Shopper!
Narration - Sarah Ann Masse - OK
She's a really good narrator, but this book has a lot of varied accents and I'm gonna say that's not her strong point. Molly (Rae's roommate) had a touch too much Valley Girl mixed in with what was supposed to be a Welsh accent. But as a narrator, she's good. Has a very pleasant voice and good pacing.
The story is a paranormal tale that's a little bit Harry Potter-ish. A young girl who's parents are both killed when she's a child, she's cared for by an Uncle, has no idea she has these powers until she's sent away to this school where she meets all these other kids who all have varied powers and are learning how to use them.
I rather enjoyed it (except when Molly was speaking) and would definitely be interested in continuing the series.
I received a copy of this audiobook free of charge from audiobookboom in exchange for an unbiased review
This is a fantastic story of Harry Potter meets X-Men, but with a female heroine. Are is just like a typical teen girl, even when she discovers that's she's not like the others. she has her insecurities, hopes, crushes, and dreams just like everyone else, but is haunted by the sins of her father at every turn. I really enjoyed the realness and relatability of the characters and am looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here!
Introvert, geek, social dragonfly
Sarah is an excellent narrator. The book could have been tighter in some areas. Rae irritated me at times but I had to remind mywself she's 16. Devon seems kewl, I'm still in the fence. Julian IS amazing. I wish he had been in the book more and I'm glad Rae and he will be working on his tattoo when she returns for the next term.
Carter is definitely a supportive and positive influence for Rae. I'm interested to see where this book series goes

It was very intriguing and I loved it! I got the audio version because I drive for a living and I highly recommend it! I am starting the second book today!
"Couldn't stand the narrator"
I gave up on this before the end of the second chapter as I just couldn't stand the narrator. Her voice isn't that pleasant and her accents are not only terrible - and a bit insulting. The story seems good and I have bought the Kindle version so I can finish it.
