"Great Book. Fantastic Narrator. Engrossing Series."

The best so far of this great series, expertly narrated by Kate Reading (I was already a fan of hers from The Wheel of Time series). This fifth book was so generous and satisfying that by the end I feared for a moment that it was the final book. Of course that's not the case, and I'm really looking forward to First Lord's Fury, due to come out near the end of the year!

"will we ever get the last one?"

ok, So...I loved this book and I loved the series. I think tho that the real question is this: will Audible EVER give us the last book in an unabridged form or will this be another like OUTLANDER series where there's just some cheap abridged version of the next in the series? I'm getting a bit frustrated. I love epics but I love the endings too. So far i've got 4 unfinished epics in my library. 3 of them because Audible doesn't have the last books.Codex, Ice and Fire (boo George R.R. Martin you promised us September!), OUTLANDER (i won't consider it done til you give us unabridged; so far the abridged has really bad and unsatisfied reviews.) So, YES (!), I love the Codex Alera Series. Great narration, great characters (some I love to hate), great series. BUT PLEASE, can we have the last book in unabridged and SOON!

"Great book. Great narrator. Bad Audio."

The book itself is great fun, and I'd listen to Kate Reading read the phone book, but there is something wrong with the editing of this audiobook. In a few places there are very abrupt and noticeably short intervals between words and in at least one place, some text has just been skipped over. This is the first time I've experienced such a strange problem with a downloaded book.

    "Solid Fantasy Series"

Butcher's "Dresdin Files" was highly recommended, and that's what I came looking for...but being a fan of things like "Wheel of Time", "Song of Ice and Fire", "Sword of Truth", etc., I decided to try this instead.

Was not disappointed. Really well written, good characters, good plot, interesting take on magic...

This was not as good as Ice and Fire, but at least as good as WoT, and better than SoT...if that helps (Take into account I loved all of those series...)

"Another excellent book, poor audio editing"

The book and series are great! But the audio editing in this book was horrible, I kept rewinding as the narrators voice was changing and I thought I had skipped ahead. Turned out the editing was just really lousy.
Fortunately this problem was not in the previous books and has not been nearly as bad in the last. Thanks Jim, more please.

"Solid, but with same old flaws"

Like the rest of the Codex Alera books this one is entertaining, but still has the issues of many of the other books. If you have read all of the way to book 5 you probably are in to Butchers new world. Princeps' Fury has plenty of military and battle scenes and less of the love scenes which I enjoyed. The characters still sometimes act out of character and the antagonist seem to just evolve to something worse as the scenario needs it. It seems with this series when I am in the middle of the book I always feel I need to take a break. By the end, however, I always pick up the next book. I also like that Kate Reading does the entire series, she does a good job and is consistent.

    "Best of the bunch"

Book 5 is just flat out great. It is a book about fighting, not fighting, magic, humanity, strength, love, trust, betrayal and standing up to do the right thing even when it costs you to do it. Kate Reading is superb as always in this series. The Vord remind me of the Borg (Star Trek) in their single mindedness. Maybe any enemy that has a 4 letter name with OR in it is supposed to have the same personality traits...lol. Do yourself a favor and enjoy this book, it really is an adventure for the mind. Enjoy!

"This Series gets better and better!"

By Book 5 I was pretty invested in this series. In fact, knowing there was only one more book to go, I tried to slow down my listening to make it last longer. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Sharon Shinn, Lois McMaster Bujold, etc. Kate Reading is wonderful as the narrator. Now that I've finished the last book, I'm just hoping that somewhere out there Jim Butcher is typing away on book 7.

    "Wow!"

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and this is the best book yet. The author pulls you into the story so that you feel the emotions of the events as they happen. I just finished and am already downloading the next book. During this series, I could not limit my listening time to my commute only.
