Publisher's summary

Tavi of Calderon, now recognized as Princeps Gaius Octavian and heir to the crown, has achieved a fragile alliance with Alera's oldest foes, the savage Canim. But when Tavi and his legions guide the Canim safely to their lands, his worst fears are realized.

The dreaded Vord - the enemy of Aleran and Cane alike - have spent the last three years laying waste to the Canim homeland. And when the Alerans are cut off from their ships, they find themselves with no choice but to fight shoulder to shoulder if they are to survive.

For 1,000 years, Alera and her furies have withstood every enemy and survived every foe. The 1,000 years are over....

"Rousing...No less powerful than his intense battle scenes [are] Butcher’s vivid characterizations.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

“A treat for action fans and series followers.” (Booklist)

Narration Production Issues

Kate Reading is my favorite narrator. This series started out with her normal voice. but as the series has gone on, her voice has gotten blander and blander. With this book she doesn't sound like her normal voice at all. It seems like she was instructed to sound gender-neutral. It was sooo bland I could hardly pay attention. What a disappointment.

Good but not great!

Enjoy the narrator and overall story, but this story is not as compelling as the previous ones. Looking forward to the final book.

Great but long

Like the previous books in this series, this too was well written, and a good story. perhaps it's that I've been reading therm back to back but I found my attention, my patience waining during this book. Hopefully after a short break, the final book will recapture my imagination.

loved it, but the file had issues, so many glitches and skipping made for a frustrating listen

This series is AWESOME!

Many enjoyable hours of listening with this series. You simply fall in love with the characters. Butcher knows how to keep the story fresh. Can not wait for "First Lord's Fury" this winter.

Continues the story

Continues the story well but only leaving a review to mention as I read in other reviews that the editing is botched. Nothing super serious but clipped words, missing parts of the first word in a sentence, stuff like that. Don't know what was going on in editing but your can still enjoy the story, it's not that big of a problem overall.
