Publisher's summary

Polgara is the epic culmination of a magnificent saga, and a fitting farewell to a world which, once experienced, will never be forgotten.

She soars above a world of warriors, kings, and priests. The daughter of Belgarath and the shape-shifter Poledra, she has fought wars, plotted palace coups, and worked her powerful magic for three thousand years. Now, Polgara looks back at her magnificent life, in this fitting crown jewel to the saga that is the Eddings' Belgariad and Mallorean cycles.

Her hair streaked white by her father's first touch, her mind guided by a mother she will not see again for centuries, Polgara begins life in her Uncle Beldin's tower, and in the prehistorical, magical Tree that stands in the middle of the Vale. There, she first learns the reaches of her powers. There she assumes the bird shapes that will serve her on her adventures. And there she starts on the path toward her destiny as Duchess of Erat, shepherdess of the cause of good, adversary of Torak the One-Eyed Dragon God, and guardian of the world's last, best hope: the heir to the Rivan throne.

Here is the legendary life story of a woman of wit, passion, and complex emotions, a woman born of two majestic parents who could not have been more unlike one another. Ordained to make peace and make war, to gain love and lose love, Polgara lives out her family's rich prophecy in the ceaseless struggle between the Light and the Dark.

A little long in the last part, but a fitting end!

It filled gaps from other books and gave a more complete look at the lore. if you've read the previous books you of course have to read this!

Narration could be better.

The narration didn't match the rest of the books in the series. Names were mis- pronounced, and accents didn't match. I love the story and characters.

The story is great mispronunciation spoil it.

It’s an interesting story that gives Polgara’s side of yen story and fills in a lot of the blanks.
It’s a shame Dana didn’t listen to Cameron Beierle’s version first as Cameron from my understanding spoke to David and Lee Eddings to make sure the pronunciation was correct for character and place names.

Review

Some of her pronunciations were quite different from expected. Other than that I enjoyed it

Lots of mispronounced names but amazing book

I've loved this book for years and have read it about a dozen times. While her reading is otherwise great, it's such a shame that the voice actor wasn't given the correct pronunciations for places and names. Really took me out of the story everytime she pronounced Mallorea or Ulgo or a number of other places incorrectly and inconsistently with the rest of the books. Still a great book and worth listening to.

Wish it had a different Narrator

I love these books and I love this story, I just wish we would have had Cameron Beirle narrate this story as well. I don't like the change in pronunciation of names and places.

Spectacular Story, So-So Narration

The followup to Belgarath the Sorceror, this story is amazing. I love the characters and the rich worlds built. Really a great read, and one you never get tired of!

The narrator has a very odd way of pronouncing things that is really distracting, despite a very nice voice overall. She reads well, but butchers place and character names. I read these on my own and had certain pronunciations in my head, and every other audio book I've heard has pronounced them the same as I did. I've gotta say it takes a little of the shine off.

I love the story but…

the performance is severely lacking. I’m not sure if this was narrated prior to or after Cameron’s narration of The Belgariad and Malloreon but the pronunciations this woman does is gods awful and mars the performance. Beyond the mispronounced names of people, places, and things the performance is wonderful… but ugh. Mall-or-rhea instead of Ma-lor-rhea, Bel-Garad instead of Bel-Garath. Chew-tick instead of Tu-chik. Mimbra instead of Mim-bray. Yuck.

Character names

Every reader should listen to the first readers pronunciation of the characters, names and location names. This reader tried to be clever and put her own twist on the names. It is extremely annoying to hear five books, previously, pronouncing the names, and have another reader change them.

Narrator mispronounces EVERYTHING.

This narrator obviously never listened to the previous eleven audiobooks in this series. She makes no attempt to pronounce anything with continuity to the previous books. She cannot even pronounce melee properly!
