Publisher's summary

Polgara is the epic culmination of a magnificent saga, and a fitting farewell to a world which, once experienced, will never be forgotten.

She soars above a world of warriors, kings, and priests. The daughter of Belgarath and the shape-shifter Poledra, she has fought wars, plotted palace coups, and worked her powerful magic for three thousand years. Now, Polgara looks back at her magnificent life, in this fitting crown jewel to the saga that is the Eddings' Belgariad and Mallorean cycles.

Her hair streaked white by her father's first touch, her mind guided by a mother she will not see again for centuries, Polgara begins life in her Uncle Beldin's tower, and in the prehistorical, magical Tree that stands in the middle of the Vale. There, she first learns the reaches of her powers. There she assumes the bird shapes that will serve her on her adventures. And there she starts on the path toward her destiny as Duchess of Erat, shepherdess of the cause of good, adversary of Torak the One-Eyed Dragon God, and guardian of the world's last, best hope: the heir to the Rivan throne.

Here is the legendary life story of a woman of wit, passion, and complex emotions, a woman born of two majestic parents who could not have been more unlike one another. Ordained to make peace and make war, to gain love and lose love, Polgara lives out her family's rich prophecy in the ceaseless struggle between the Light and the Dark.

Great book, OK performance

The narrator makes some jarring mispronunciations, as well as sometimes substituting the wrong word (example - instead of 'he picked him up bodily' she said 'picked him up BLOODILY'. Big difference. Also the way she chooses to pronounce certain proper names makes me cringe. Otherwise good performance. I adore this book, have loved it since high school.

be aware...different narrator

listened to the series many times and was excited to find polgara. cenwdra made me flinch but I chalked mipronuciations up to accent and time....but I finally felt polgara as a women...she's quit mean in the other books and a women's voice gave more empathy....but you must listen to it first or it just might throw you....

Great book

Other than the miss pronunciation of many important words it was a great book. The reader should have listened to at least one of the proceeding 11 books for the right pronunciation.

love Eddings

I wasn't too sure about getting this one because of it being narrated by a woman. It made sense but I prefer listening to softer voices but this was a very good recording of one of my favorite books.

Sad how a narrater can destroy a story

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, the narrater killed it. Clearly not someone familiar with the Eddings series.

If you’ve listened to books by David Eddings and Leigh Eddings before, how does this one compare?

NO I haven't and I am too scared to. i have read the Eddings series and am too inlove with teh story to have it wrecked again.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She had a snide tone to her voice that completely misrepresented the characters. How dare she make every character sound so shallow and with no susbtance.

S H O C K I N G !!!!

Do you think Polgara the Sorceress needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Polgara is an off-shoot book so no I don't thikn it does

Any additional comments?

When pickiung your narraters you should ensure they are well versed with where the story line and characters came from. Eddings writes in such a way that you take to the characters like friends and when someone like this poorly versed narrater comes along and does what she does, it is offensive.

She should apologise to David.

Good, the lady version of Belgaraths book

The book is probably slight better than Belgaraths but not too much new is introduced. It is well narrated.

A fitting end

A good ending to a childhood favorite of mine.
Reader is far better than the one in belgarath who seemed to rush trough the book.

pronunciation of unique words

when changing the narrators, they should use the same pronunciation of unique words previously used.

Worth a listen.

It was very good. The performance was excellent and that really matters. I prefer Edding's Elenium series, but the performance on audible leaves a lot to be desired, so I haven't purchased it.

A story telling style like no other

David’s ability to include the reader in the story helps to immerse the reader deep into the epic and makes the reader feel a part of the family.
