    "excellent radio series"

William Palmer, the cursed medieval pilgrim is the central character in this original series. The mixture of modern day matters and fairy folklore are blended seamlessly together. Each episode has its own story, and also follows a story arch which continues throughout the subsequent series.

With an excellent script, acting, and production values; this series will appeal to people who enjoy a good drama, as well as those who love fantasy fiction.

This is the first of three series. Audible, where are the rest?

    "Excellent audio drama"

Thoughtful and compassionate, dark and humourous, these supernatural tales set in the present day reach back through time and myth to create a rich and potent drama. Lovely acting from all the cast, too.

    All are interesting characters

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

    Great dramatisation

    "A nice surprise"

I heard one of these on radio and when it was published through Audible, I thought "great" and downloaded it. I wasn't disappointed.

Great storylines, good characterisations and I hope there will be another series.

    Story
    "Pilgrim`s Tales"
Would you consider the audio edition of Pilgrim: Complete Series 1 to be better than the print version?

Sadly I have not read the books by Sebastian Baczkiewicz, but the Audio books are very well dramatised and detailed.

What did you like best about this story?

The concept/plot for the main character is not unique in the comic book/ fantasy realm, but the principle of a lost or trapped soul is viewed from a slightly twisted view. The end game is not to carry out revenge on all who have damned Pilgrim along the way but just to be free.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Although the audio book does not have narration, the main part depicts the scenes with great detail and allows the listener to build up an image of the scene very clearly.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Time and tide waits for no man, except Pilgrim.........

    Story
    "Awesome Awesome Awesome Series."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would not hesitate to recommend this to a friend or even an enemy. It's an excellent series brilliantly acted and brilliantly written. Based in the here and now, you very quickly realise that living alongside the everyday mundane people you meet may just be a malevolent spirit ready to bring the world to its knees.

Who was your favorite character and why?

All of the characters are good and bring different things to the table.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favourite?

My favourite bit of casting is of Jamie Foreman as Puck.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Once you start listening to this, you won't stop. You'll be hungry for more.

    Any additional comments?

This series will make you look at the world differently and make it more magical.

    Story
    "Mesmerising tales,"
Would you listen to Pilgrim: Complete Series 1 again? Why?

I first caught these on the radio and was hooked. From that clear child's voice introducing the stories to the end. Although they are told in the modern day they seem to link back to the time when tales were oral, told round a fireside and when old beliefs were mixed with newer Christian traditions to make sense of the world. All the characters and stories are wonderful and however small the part each voice and characterisation works completely. William Palmer is played wonderfully by Paul Hilton, he conveys a such a warm character with such a world weary yet genuine humanity; he is fabulous throughout the whole series to the one just finished on Radio 4 before Christmas. They are stories that make you feel that you have touched into another world: a little like a couple of the Alan Garner books i have read; they do not seem to me to be a world of weird fantasy rather more a way of harking back to a time when even the oddest events could have another less "modern rational" interpretation. I would have said I am not really very keen on Sci-fi or fantasy but as you can tell I do love these tales.

What did you like best about this story?

In our lost old history of oral story telling, yes.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances? How does this one compare?

    See above!

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes William Palmer is such a human character, trapped by his unwanted humanity, that I think thats why the plays are so engaging. He has seen it all over and over again and still cares.

    Any additional comments?

Listen to them they are not like anything else not the radio.
