Publisher's summary

For the first time as an Orbit special edition, Brent Weeks's blockbuster novella Perfect Shadow tells the origin story of the Night Angel trilogy's most enigmatic character: Durzo Blint.

Gaelan Starfire is a farmer, happy to be a husband and a father; a careful, quiet, simple man. He's also an immortal, peerless in the arts of war. Over the centuries, he's worn many faces to hide his gift, but he is a man ill-fit for obscurity, and all too often he's become a hero, his very names passing into legend: Acaelus Thorne, Yric the Black, Hrothan Steelbender, Tal Drakkan, Rebus Nimble.

But when Gaelan must take a job hunting down the world's finest assassins for the beautiful courtesan-and-crimelord Gwinvere Kirena, what he finds may destroy everything he's ever believed in.

Great story!!!! Subpar reader

I love the Night Angel series. Brent Weeks is one of my favorite authors and this is another wonderful addition to a beloved character in the series. There is only one problem, the reader is subpar to say the least. While his voice is wonderful to hear, the man gets the name of the characters wrong at points and I think that he should get the correct pronunciation of the characters before reading another book. Well written story and I love Durzo Blint as a character and it is awesome to get a mini story about him and a little in his backstory.

Great Series

A great listen from beginning to end, the narration was excellent and the story was superb. This was my first collection by Brent Weeks and he has quickly become a favorite.

A great look at Durzo

I really enjoyed this short-story, but the music at the beginning and end covered up some of the speaking and was much louder than it should have been.

Good Short Story

I really do like this story though I wish it could have been longer. I also wish it was read by Paul Beymer

Great prequel

A great prequel to The Night Angel trilogy. Well narrated by James Langton. Tells the story of Gaelan, one of Durzo Blint' s past lives. A great listen and read.

a nice back story

just a fun little backstory giving you a little more in-depth look into the main character, hopefully the author will return soon to do some more books in the night angel series

Short and packed with information

In audio book format, the sudden switches from past and present are sometimes jarring and disorienting. Without seeing how it is physically written it is hard to tell if that is due to the narration or by design.

Seems kind of cramped with how much context is crammed into the book - using knowledge from the trilogy to make sense, but can be confusing if it has been awhile since you read the Night Angel trilogy.

Still, an interesting peek into the time prior to the birth of Durzo Blint and the death of Gaelan Starfire.
