Once the Sith order teemed with followers. But their rivalries divided them in endless battles for supremacy - until one dark lord at last united the Sith in the quest to enslave the galaxy and exterminate the Jedi. Yet it would fall to another, far more powerful than the entire Brotherhood of Darkness, to ultimately realize the full potential of the Sith and wield the awesome power of the dark side as never before.
Since childhood, Dessel has known only the abuse of his hateful father and the dangerous, soul-crushing labor of a cortosis miner. Deep in the tunnels of the desolate planet Apatros, endlessly excavating the rare mineral valued throughout the galaxy, Dessel dreams of the day he can escape - a day he fears may never come. But when a high-stakes card game ends in deadly violence, Dessel suddenly finds himself a wanted man.
On the run from vengeful Republic forces, Dessel vanishes into the ranks of the Sith army and ships out to join the bloody war against the Republic and its Jedi champions. There, Dessel’s brutality, cunning, and exceptional command of the Force swiftly win him renown as a warrior. But in the eyes of his watchful masters, he is destined for a far greater role in the ultimate Sith plan for the galaxy - if he can prove himself truly worthy.
As an acolyte in the Sith academy, studying the secrets and skills of the dark side at the feet of its greatest masters, Dessel embraces his new Sith identity: Bane. However the true test is yet to come. In order to gain acceptance into the Brotherhood of Darkness, one must fully surrender to the dark side through a trial by fire that Bane, for all his unquenchable fury and lust for power, may not be strong enough to endure... especially since deception, treachery, and murder run rampant among the Sith disciples, and utter ruthlessness alone is the key to survival.
Only by defying the most sacred traditions, rejecting all he has been taught, and drawing upon the long-forgotten wisdom of the very first Sith can Bane hope to triumph - and forge from the ashes of that which he must destroy a new era of absolute dark power.

Yes, see below.
The main character, Bane.
I have read and listened to several Star Wars EU books, most of them good. That being said they all seem to move very quickly, running along their stories to their inevitable end. They have always felt a little lack, still entertaining, but leaving me wishing they were fleshed out more.
The Karpyshyn books are not like that, this book and the others in this series felt very full and detailed, rich with content and not in a rush to get to the dramatic end. They slowly draw a detail rich story, I couldn't put it down.
If you like any of the EU books you have to read the Bane series.
Darth Bane:Path of Destruction is by far my favorite star wars book. The story gives you great character arch to understand Banes journey with the dark side.
Best Sith-Perspective Star Wars series written today. Great flow, excellent syorytelling/presentation and worth listening to. Highly recommended.
Loved it so much. This audiobook had me smiling as soon as I started it and the VB iconic music swelled. The production was top-notch with sounds and music elevating every scene. Narration was great, except sometimes the voices mixed but it was an amazing book, one that rekindled my love for the expanded universe.
I think I'm in love with a Star Wars villian....
Darth Bane has caused me to question my own morals. This book is so spectacular that on more than one occasion, I found myself very much identifying with the Sith in general, and especially with Bane. I just want so badly to give the man a hug!!
I honestly cannot imagine enjoying another book as much as I relished Path of Destruction, but as I begin the second I'm hoping that I will.
This should be one of the movies! This is the best story I have heard in the Star Wars saga to date!!
"Story good, narration average"
I liked the story of bane but I have listened to better narration in books on here.
This book is a perfect addition to the entire storyline of Star Wars. After listening to this book more things became clear to me.

My first audio book and I loved every minute of it! Excellent story and an outstanding vocal performance by Jonathan Davis really drags you into the Star Wars Universe. A must buy for any Sci-Fi and in particular Star Wars fan.
"Can't wait to listen to books 2 and 3!"
This was the first Star Wars novel I've listened to and it was a great account of the birth of the rule of two. Interesting characters and thoroughly enjoyable storyline. A must for any Star Wars fan... Especially if you lean a little to the darkness!
