Once the Sith order teemed with followers. But their rivalries divided them in endless battles for supremacy - until one dark lord at last united the Sith in the quest to enslave the galaxy and exterminate the Jedi. Yet it would fall to another, far more powerful than the entire Brotherhood of Darkness, to ultimately realize the full potential of the Sith and wield the awesome power of the dark side as never before.
Since childhood, Dessel has known only the abuse of his hateful father and the dangerous, soul-crushing labor of a cortosis miner. Deep in the tunnels of the desolate planet Apatros, endlessly excavating the rare mineral valued throughout the galaxy, Dessel dreams of the day he can escape - a day he fears may never come. But when a high-stakes card game ends in deadly violence, Dessel suddenly finds himself a wanted man.
On the run from vengeful Republic forces, Dessel vanishes into the ranks of the Sith army and ships out to join the bloody war against the Republic and its Jedi champions. There, Dessel’s brutality, cunning, and exceptional command of the Force swiftly win him renown as a warrior. But in the eyes of his watchful masters, he is destined for a far greater role in the ultimate Sith plan for the galaxy - if he can prove himself truly worthy.
As an acolyte in the Sith academy, studying the secrets and skills of the dark side at the feet of its greatest masters, Dessel embraces his new Sith identity: Bane. However the true test is yet to come. In order to gain acceptance into the Brotherhood of Darkness, one must fully surrender to the dark side through a trial by fire that Bane, for all his unquenchable fury and lust for power, may not be strong enough to endure... especially since deception, treachery, and murder run rampant among the Sith disciples, and utter ruthlessness alone is the key to survival.
Only by defying the most sacred traditions, rejecting all he has been taught, and drawing upon the long-forgotten wisdom of the very first Sith can Bane hope to triumph - and forge from the ashes of that which he must destroy a new era of absolute dark power.

They should start casting for this movie now. Drew Karpyshyn did a awesome job writing, it kept me intrigued and wanting more. Jonathan Davis brought all the characters to life a great combination of great minds. Now part 2.
Darth Bane trilogy is easily the best Star Wars series. It tells you how Bane sacrifices his own people for the greater good of the Sith. In doing this he begins a journey to what eventually becomes the Empire by implementing the Rule of Two. Hollywood is always slow to realize what fans really want. But I think at some point you will see Banes story on the big screen. The most influential Sith Lord ever!
I was in the mood for a book that's fun to listen to, with a rich world to explore.
Something like Harry Potter or LOTR, but not as heavy to listen to. This hit the spot.
Great performance, subtle sound effects and a fun story. Rooting for the villain is so much more fun
The story of a man's journey to the Dark Side and path to domination. The story follows a well known Sith Lord, Darth Bane, from his humble beginnings as a miner to his time as a soldier for the Sith army, and eventually a Dark Lord of the Sith! The writer is very detailed and learned in the lore of the Star Wars universe and paints images and depicts scenes that play out in your mind as if you were witnessing them yourself. The amazing narrator takes it a step further by bringing it all to life with his talented voice and emotion that changes to suit many characters, differing them from each other and masterfully fitting them each. The only exception is the female voices, he does his best to imitate a females voice but understandably doesn't perfect it due to his gender of course. This however takes almost nothing away from the experience and is negated by his masterful delivery of all the other characters. I was already familiar with part of this story due to reading the graphic novel "Jedi vs Sith" which mirrors the part of this story it is based on surprisingly well. However this was the first novel I've ever read/listened to all the way though and I found it very hard to stop when I had to. I highly recommend this novel to anyone that has an interest in the Star Wars universe and especially...the Dark Side!
Gripping, educational, passionate.
I can only really compare it to Darth Plagueis. No other book has inspired so much of the interest in the dark side in comparison. Between these two it will be a thoroughly enjoyable education in the dark side. They both give it so much more depth then 'it is evil, don't', as well as show why the Jedi are held in such contempt. I'm inclined to agree with them...
He is a phenomenal listen, he brings such life to each of the characters its like listening to a movie. The only real issue I hear is all the Twi'lek (there are 3!) all sound the same, making me forget who was who from time to time, which is not a good thing as they are all very different.
Yes, once started it was hard to put down. If I didn't have to work I don't think I would have.
What are you reading my review for still?!?! Listen to it!! Its amazing!!
Brutal, Thrilling, Epic
Jonathan Davis is amazing, the way he brings this story to life is absolutely brilliant. No doubt this book would be an amazing read, but Jonathan had me addicted.
Several. The story of how Darth Bane came to be is not some walk in the park. There was pain, brutality, and turmoil. Any Star Wars fan who want's to see a story of the Dark wide would thoroughly enjoy this audio book.
If you're a Star Wars fan you won't be disappointed, if you're intrigued by the dark side, you NEED to listen to this audio book
"I enjoyed this audio book I already have all three"
I already have all three books in the series look forward to finishing the last one off.
Path of Destruction is one of my favourites, so good to have it in audio.

"good story ,but this tape is missing a part"
missing the ending of chapter 17 and maybe more but the story its self is really good
"great official sound effects"
great straight forward story with great sound effects of music, background and light sabers magic
"great audio book"
hope they have a follow up!
would recommend to anyone as I'm not a avid reader I love these types of audio books it's my second in a week, safe to say I'm pretty obsessed .
"Great story, Shame about the narrator"
I have all 3 paperback books of the Darth Bane story, it took ten chapters before I could get used to the very similar sound of all the characters. This didn't ruin the story but it's something that should be known to future readers. Yes! I'm going to continue with the other 2 audio books :)
"Through Listening My Chains Are Broken"
What a great start to a series. It's a nice change of pace to have a story almost entirely about the sith instead of the usual side characters they sometimes tend to be in star wars stories. Jonathan Davis is very good, having listened to the other old republic books narrated by Mark Thompson (who is fantastic at telling these stories) I was hesitant at first but I think it works although a part of me wishes he'd done these too. No time to waste, I'm going to start the next book in the Darth Bane series right now.
